Yes you absolutely can, especially when the points are wide open. If you don't think so, go watch the OT highlights of last night's Maple Leafs' game.I'm not absolving the defense at all, as they were far too passive. But the Flyers, as a whole, let San Jose impose its will on them. The Sharks are better, and if the Flyers lose to them because of skill, fine. But they didn't put up a fight for the majority of the game. Not just the defense, the entire team.

really...if Coburn actually "touched " Pavelski and played the way a defenseman is supposed to in front of the net....he doesn't score a single goal.....thats not on the forwards....every single goal was from within 6 feet of the crease!!!!

i've heard that reason too many times now. they just aren't good enough or something is seriously wrong in the lockerroom. by that i mean, they have tuned out the coach.
how is it possible nhl level defensemen cant cover a guy in front of their own net? skating has zero to do with that. competing? maybe. but they should do that in their sleep.

- Briere

The lack of compete was straight out of the coach's mouth:

"Berube said the Flyers "almost looked like we stopped competing after they tied the game up."

Dude, I'm not disagreeing with you. All I'm saying is that d-zone coverage is a team game. Maybe if the forwards hustle to the points or play better along the walls, the puck doesn't get to within 6 feet of the crease. All 5 skaters are responsible for what happens in every zone. Not one of them played well enough past the halfway point of the game in any of the zones.

They really did. The tying goal seemed to just deflate them, and they just looked sluggish and uninterested.

my point is how many times is that excuse valid before you come to the conclusion this team just isnt very good?

ive heard that too many times now.

i agree there has been games where the flyers didnt compete. it happens to every team in a (way too long) 82 game season. but it happens (or that's the excuse used too often) way too much for this squad.

Bill you've always said the difference between good goalies and great goalies is how they bounce back after allowing their first goal. I am in no way blaming Mason for last night. I am blaming the team as a whole. The Flyers need to adopt the mentality of a great goaltender and raise their game after allowing a go ahead or game tying goal.

I know this is a young team and I love seeing them ride the wave of emotion during a third period comeback, but they need to stop feeling bad for themselves when allowing a bad goal. There have been too many instances where the team allows things to snowball and get out of hand. Play with less emotion and more common sense.

They need to regroup after a goal allowed and take a deep breath. I see too many guys going in their own direction without cohesion. Individual play is not the answer. They each need to do their job and help each other.

I hope they are able to turn the page and not allow this loss to linger. They will need a 60 minute effort to beat the Rangers.

Not only was the coverage poor, but the compete level of the defense was non-existent.

Joe Pavelski basically setup a lounge chair and had umbrella drinks in the slot and crease last night and nobody did a thing.

This made me smile. Not much to smile about this morning...
I know we have some good pieces, but it was disappointing to see them fall apart.
I think that we'll be seeing some moves at the trade deadline... And if they show the same effort Sat there may be more than we expect.

I agree. Homer has, if nothing else, always been proactive. At times a little TOO proactive. I don't think we'll necessarily see a blockbuster, but it's not unthinkable that he may pull a shocker or two (of a deal, people).

I think this team tops out at "first round playoff fodder", talent-wise.

They just wilted under pressure last night, period.

Ok, but they gave up 5 and lost.

That's not the day a Pens fan comes into a Flyers forum a day after they get blown out and ask about Claude Giroux's post-Olympic pulse.

I think he'll make some noise in the offseason. I don't see much happening at the trade deadline.

I would be shocked if Kimmo was traded. I expect Downie and Mez to go.

But really, there is no plan. I said it before these seasons started. The Sixers are the closest to a championship in this city and I still believe it. They have a foolproof plan.

Last night was irritating because our defense is built to clear the front of the net. I could have lived with point shots being blocked and outlet passes not being crisp, but to allow the Sharks to score 7 goals from around the net?

Still a lot of luck involved for the Sixers to get there. I don't think any Philadelphia team is real close, but Id say the Sixers, Flyers and Eagles are much further ahead of the Phillies.

I really hope the Flyers take down that hammock that was hanging in the Flyers' slot and crease before Saturday afternoon's game. It's just not a good look.

I actually think it's the Iggles.

But yeah, the Sixers pulling the Tankadelphia move will get them in position, for sure.

Like, being good defensive defensemen is supposed to be the thing this blue line does well. Allegedly. Supposedly.

I'm really nervous about playing the Rangers on Saturday. They are coming off a good win over the Blackhawks. This is setting up to be a usual Flyers Rangers game. I can already see how it will go.

Rangers score 2 in the 1st period then coast to a 4-1 win. The loan Flyers goal coming courtesy of Simmonds with 5 minutes left to break up the shutout.

Foolproof plan? Because it's a guarantee Wiggins, MCW, and Noel will be stars? Please. Unless LeBron decides to join the party, Sixers won't win anything except a few playoff series.. I'm a fan of all four Philly teams and I'm still putting the Sixers last on the totem pole. Phillies can at least buy a championship. Flyers have talent, just need a GM that knows what he's doing. Eagles are on their way. Come on man, Sixers?
