We are a real scroing winger, and 2 d-men away from being really dangerous. Too much grit.
- Deasr1

Well look.

We have elite talent level guys in Richards, Carter, Pronger, Briere and Timonen. An emerging Giroux.

Compare that to today. We aren't going to be turning a Hillary Clinton, into Kate Upton. They lack star power, and I do believe they need more of that, throughout the line-up.

Other than Giroux, its too many complimentary pieces.

flyers should trade Braydn Schenn and Luke Schenn for Tyler Myers +

Tyler Myers has huge potential on a very bad Buffalo team. Change of scenery would be huge for a 24 year old

I don't agree with that at all. The Flyers have how many good young forwards under 25? And a few good players in the 25-27 range.
- MJL

Ok, say in 5 years, our D-men are very to studly good. All our forwards are getting to the wrong side of 30. I'm not saying these young guys can't help win in that 5 year time, but they wil be getting into there primes and we will be figuring where we can put Claude so we can fit in the new "star" player who won't be ready for another 3 to 4 years.

All of those defenseman aren't 5 years away. They may no longer be prospects and may not have made it in that time either. So much can change on a team in a year or two. And it always does. There is so much pessimism, and it normally flows heavily after the Flyers lose a game like they did last night. When they're winning, not so much. This team has a very bright future, in my opinion.

I think I saw Jsaq mention it here once, that he wasn't happy about wasting the prime years of Giroux.

I do believe that is the stark reality. Doom and gloom or whatever you wish to call it, but I think its realistic. The Flyers have prospects, that are largely unproven. Hopefully they pan out. However, that back end is nowhere near ready to establish the team as a cup contender for a few years, instead of one that relies so heavily on hot/cold streaks.

Enjoy the ride, and build for the future. Make the smart moves, and not just run to try and grab every shiny player available. I believe in Giroux, but he needs help, of that elite caliber.

Lots of contradictions here. Don't try and grab every shiny player available, but they need more star power!

I never understood this whole pessimism thing. For saying they need to improve in areas instead of saying its all good?

Ahhh well, we are all different.

They don't need more star power. Star power = pontential that could be reached. Better team play = wins. I would rather have 3 more Reads than 1 more Giroux.

Lol Im going to step away here, but its clear what that says. They need star power, but the right players.

As opposed to say a guy like LeCavalier.

No, for saying none of their young players are going to be top players. For saying that the defense prospects are never going to catch up to the forwards. In other words this team has no shot in the future, and should just start over.

There are obvious areas where there is still work to be done. But they have a strong nucleus to build with.

They didn't get Lecavalier because of star power. No GM thinks like that unless he's just doing it to put fans in the seats. They signed Lecavalier because he is a good player who can help the Flyers and he signed for a great deal.

When do you think they have the best chance to win...next 2-3 years or 5-7? With whom we have now?

Well maybe I'd take another Giroux instead because he is special, but I agree with the point you're making for sure.

And the fact they have loved him even before he was drafted. They love certain players and want them on their team at times. Not worrying about how they fit.

I think it's the next 2-3 years for sure. But then, Giroux will still be a top player. And players like Couturier will be much, much better. I don't think many realize how good that kid is going to be.

Ok, maybe not the best example. But I see you understand what I am getting at. Eagles landed star power couple years ago. How'd that do for them?

I do actually. I got his jersey two days after the draft. Love that kid. Once he fills out just a bit more, beastly.
