Looking at capgeek, they will have around 12.6 mill.

They need to ru-up Schenn, Raffl, Gus.

They can do that pretty easily IMO.

From there they will likely have about 8 mil to add 2 d-men and a backup goalie...

- jak521

If you're on capgeek actually put together a roster that will be cap compliant to start next season. And don't forget that it will have to include Pronger's $4.94 million hit.

I'm about ready to give up on Berube if this is true. Trade Meszaros for a 7th just to prevent this from happening again.

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN 53s
Gustafsson working with Gill and Meszaros with LSchenn which means Gus is likely out vs NYR

I have no idea what to think about Berube...

Do we give him credit for the improvement of the record, or is that just the team regressing back to the expected mean after a horrible start?

I just can't get over how (frank)ing clueless he sounds in interviews... "derp derp derp play defense derp derp"... *glances around*. He makes Darryl Sutter sound positively eloquent in comparison.

Yes and no. Only till the first day of the season then he can be LTIR, and even then the Flyers can go over the cap by 10% before then, which is more then prongers cap hit. Plus this season they wont have any bonus penality to pay out. Plenty of room for moves once the increase to the cap is official.

IF the Flyers are getting ready to trade Meszaros, or Timonen, then wouldnt it be a good idea to get Gill in some games before we "need" him?

Gill should be fishing on a lake somewhere, feet up, beer in hand -- he's nothing but a cheerleader at this point.

Going over the Cap by 10% in summer won't help them fit any free agent signings they make on the roster at the end of training camp. And when they put Pronger on LTIR on the first day of the season all the good free agents will have been signed months ago.

It's amazing that three years into this so many Flyer fans don't understand how LTIR works. This is the kind of cap space you can expect without trades.

Ive been thinking about it and if they really want to make him go away they can offer to pay $1M of his salary for each season remaining. I think a few teams would be takers in that scenario.

The other thing I can think of is trading him for another team's overpaid player. Like a Vinny for Clarkson swap. I would think the Leafs would have to include something extra to make that happen.

Not saying I want Clarkson, it's more of an example.

haha i figured. pouliot would be interesting. i dont have a real attachment to him yet. what ive seen ive liked but its been limited. supposedly hes really good offensively, and already excels at running a powerplay. depending on what happens with letang, he could be important. but read is already a youngish, establsih 25 goal two way player. thats quality in of itself
- stayinthefnnet

Pouliot plays for a juggernaut in Portland. They are stacked. He averages 1.25 points per game.

I might just do that. They are very similar and Briere would, at least, clear off the cap after next season.

We traded one of those types of players for a guy who looks like Steve Downie but plays like a 50-year-old Theoren Fleury.

OMG, I'm sorry if I'm Laught on this or if someone else posted it, but this is just an amazing rant from Phil Esposito (language very much NSFW) about the Marty St. Louis trade request:

But you also have the 10% off season overage to work with, which will go away at the same time you can LTIR Pronger.

Your wrong here, because what normally gets in the way if a teams contracts that arent 2 way. For example, a few phantom contracts will count agains the cap until they pass waivers and are assigned to the phantoms. During the off-season, the Flyers can go up to 78.8 million on the cap. That includes Pronger's contract ofcourse, meaning until the first day of the season they will have 12 million in room. However they have to be under the cap before the end start of the season, so realistically they cant go that high unless they have a way to keep 4 million off he books until Pronger can be LTIR. For example, starting Laughton in the minors.

There has to be an easier way to say what you're saying. I'm not trying to be a Richard, but your words were just not making sense to me. You're saying they have $12M in cap space on $78.8M ($66.8, counting Pronger), but that they need to put some players in the minors (after LTIRing Pronger, which puts them at $61.9, which gives them about $10M to spend). I think I'm missing somethng. And for the record, they don't (currently) have any low cap hit one-way contracts to guys like Newbury except for MAB, who could also be LTIRed if necessary.

i know. so i take that number with a grain of salt. but still. he at least contributes in some way to them being stacked in the first place.

Pronger's contract will take up 6.9% of the available cap space on the roster the Flyers submit to start the season. There's no way around that. Keeping Laughton in the AHL until after Pronger goes on LTIR in favor of a guy like Hall would save a few hundred K. It's not any kind of solution to the problem.
