The idea that you are blaming Yzerman for this is flabbergasting. Let me get this straight, you are ok with Marty demanding a trade because his GM left him off the Team Canada roster and acted like a professional that wasn't "looking out for his own" but for the greater good of team Canada? That's nuts. Not only that, Yzerman has done nothing but get results for the Lightning since he was named the GM. He has acquired tons of talent and depth and put that franchise in a position to be successful in SOUTH FLORIDA! - rogerjspain
Tampa is not in south Florida. |

One thing I will say is that I don't believe the trade request is entirely because of the Olympic snub. I think there was probably some other stuff and that it was likely just the last straw. Don't really have anything to back this up but I just have a feeling there's more to it - S Kaspar Rollins
Who knows, but at the end of the day, it's Steve Yzerman. One of the classiest hockey players to ever lace em up (and this is coming from an Avs fan, I hate the Wings). I have such a hard time believing that of all people, he would mistreat his players.

Overlooked bit of stupidity - comparing Kesler to Luongo and saying the Canucks have only 10 days to trade him. Kesler has 2 years left, they could just as easily move him at the draft (granted, given how injury prone he is it's probably a good idea to move him sooner than that). In any case it's not comparable to Luongo by virtue of the fact that Kesler doesn't have an asinine 10 years left on his deal.
I wouldn't put it past Gillis to overvalue Kesler as well and make the same mistake but the logic here doesn't compute. |

Yeah, at least we're not seeing anymore Patrick White over David Perron picks in the 1st. That one really pissed off the fans because a lot of people wanted Perron and White was a surprising pick, coming out of high school in the states I think as a projected mid 2nd rounder. (frank)ing Nonis! And (frank)ing Burke letting Umburger walk for nothing.
At least Gillis flipped White for Hoff. He also doesn't make 1st round picks that leaves everyone scratching their heads, but development in the AHL could still be improved IMO.
The OHL scouts are definitely the team's best, I think Gillis has realized that. The benefit of having a long tenured GM would be for him too know which scouts have been better than others.
Agreed.
I'm on the fence with Gillis, I don't love him or hate him(he got screwed by the league on Luongo after exposing their loophole, NJ really got screwed though by having to give up a first for exposing the previous CBA). I liked the Booth and Ballard deals at the time, although the warning signs for Booth may have been there with his injury history.
Hated the Hodsgon-Kassian deal at first, but Cody seems like he's gonna top out as a 2LC that isn't big, fast or good defensively. Kassian continues to improve and it's harder to find a big power forward that can play and score than a one dimensional 2nd line center(I hear Sam Gagner available for those that still think Hodsgon is some sort of amazing asset). - Nucker101

Ek, there are many to choose from, but in my opinion, this is by far your dumbest entry I have seen since I've been reading this site.
So, dumbest in 5 years.
Congrats. You found a way to make yourself look even more ridiculous. - Charliebox

No kidding. Teams would be calling Gillis about Kesler and he'd be the one fielding offers in a bidding war. Not like Luongo where Gillis was probably initiating the talks trying to find a taker. |
