In all seriousness, why wouldn't fans be mad at MSL?
He is demanding to leave while saying he will only go to one team, severely limiting the clubs options of recovering from losing their best (active) player. He is not only trying to leave, but making demands that damage the franchise.
He's proving this season that he thinks he's a big deal and wants everyone else to think it too. The fact is, he wasn't snubbed by Yzerman. He just wasn't chosen to fit their system. The line-up they chose won Gold, so they were right. Yes, he did end up being a part of that, but only because Stamkos (who would have been far more useful) was out.
If he were a Leaf and pulling this I would be furious. |

I'd give a guy some slack on wanting a trade most of the time. But when it's seemingly in response to something like this (got to go anyways) and gives the GM only one team to trade to, he'll get the reaction he'll get. No matter how much class St. Louis has, this isn't one of his classier moments.
There's always going to be more to these stories, but all people can do is work with the information they have. No wonder Yzerman is done with the Team Canada business. Gold medal isn't worth having to trade top players because of the selection process.
You can play well and be a classy guy for most of your career and torpedo it in one instant. I can't blame the Lightning fans for how pissed they end up getting. |

Sorry Ek, but you may have thought this one through a bit more. I know StLouis is highly respected throughout the NHL, but Yzerman even more so.
Bringing into question Yzermans adenda or intentions, painting him in a negative light is probably going to offend a few of your faithful followers.
It almost begs the question of how long has Marty wanted out of Tampa? Because even though he was PO'd about the whole olympic thing, still doesn't seem like a worthy enough reason to demand a trade. And to stick to that demand even after going anyway and winning gold?!
This almost seems to me like something that's been festering for awhile and Marty saw this as his best opportunity to leverage his position and go where he wanted to for the last few years of his career.? Maybe?... |

Any the cap compliance penalty changed the situation pretty significantly.
Added to his poor trading record is his drafting record. Much of the blame needs to be put on the scouting staff but MG is in control of that. - Canuckleafer
They've done a major overhaul over the last 3 years, but it was a bit late.

I would say the gold was worth it... TBH the entire Canadian Hockey Nation would say it was worth it... At the end of the day its a job u seriously think Yzerman would not get hired by another team??? Its a job- his resume speaks for itself... Canadian Pride and Olympics run deeper than a GM job otherwise he would not have done it to begin with... |

Isn't this the scenario for which agents ask for NMC in their clients contracts, GM's understand what they are and how they're used, it's the fans that don't understand

Yeah, at least we're not seeing anymore Patrick White over David Perron picks in the 1st. That one really pissed off the fans because a lot of people wanted Perron and White was a surprising pick, coming out of high school in the states I think as a projected mid 2nd rounder. (frank)ing Nonis! And (frank)ing Burke letting Umburger walk for nothing.
At least Gillis flipped White for Hoff. He also doesn't make 1st round picks that leaves everyone scratching their heads, but development in the AHL could still be improved IMO.
The OHL scouts are definitely the team's best, I think Gillis has realized that. The benefit of having a long tenured GM would be for him too know which scouts have been better than others.
I'm on the fence with Gillis, I don't love him or hate him(he got screwed by the league on Luongo after exposing their loophole, NJ really got screwed though by having to give up a first for exposing the previous CBA). I liked the Booth and Ballard deals at the time, although the warning signs for Booth may have been there with his injury history.
Hated the Hodsgon-Kassian deal at first, but Cody seems like he's gonna top out as a 2LC that isn't big, fast or good defensively. Kassian continues to improve and it's harder to find a big power forward that can play and score than a one dimensional 2nd line center(I hear Sam Gagner available for those that still think Hodsgon is some sort of amazing asset). |

What you say is true except you forgot one detail. Yzerman resigned from any future Team Canada duties. That doesn't mean that he doesn't feel the medal(s) are worth it, it just means that he doesn't want to deal with this type of bullpoop in the future and wants to be the GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning without and repercussions from Team Canada duties

Nonis really (frank)ed up that draft,
Taylor Ellington at 33 overall over guys like Subban and Simmonds...
