It was also reported that GM's were sure that he'd be bought out in the off-season and were waiting for that.

Do you honestly think Gillis turned down some decent offers for him?

I doubt he got any decent offers for him because he wasn't worth anything decent. I'm reasonably certain that he turned down some offers though. Had he just given Luongo away Vancouver would still have a much younger goalie who, if not already, should be better than Lu in a few seasons. It didn't end up being the huge distraction this year that it could have been because Luongo decided to act like a pro, but this isn't the last we've heard of that contract.

Looking at EK’s rumor chart indicates his knowledge of the west coast of Canada. 52 players in total, 9 are from the west and are all Flames & Oilers who will be obvious sellers, not rocket science. I've said it at least a dozen or two dozen times. Eklund has no clue what goes on in Vancouver. He's likely buddies with Darren Dreger who also has no clue, except what (I believe, IMO) his relative Dave Nonis tells him, and then (again speculation) he feeds to Ek.

The Canadiens have a better chance at this point of moving to Quebec. Tampa has a wealthy owner who renovated their arena and is building up around the land around the arena that he bought. Tampa also has a strong fan base.
