Parity is the biggest issue. Winnipeg was dead in the water a month ago, they were gonna trade Byfuglien, Kane and everyone else. Now they're 3 points out of the race and playing well.

Teams are so scared of "selling low" and maybe missing playoffs and of even losing a deal.

But at the same time, you can't keep everybody, either -- be nice to see some teams move some guys around, give younger players an opportunity to grow into roles instead of trying to maximize the value of every single Tomas Fleischmann and Tomas Kopecky in the league

That's actually fair, in my book. If I was Vancouver, I wouldn't be insulted if the Pens asked for a fourth-rounder back -- back in the day, the "Three-Piece Deal" of a 1st, roster player and prospect was reserved for elite talent.

Kesler's a good NHL player. He's not a Three-Piece Deal guy.

That's a reasonable request -- I think all good-to-better teams plan for that, at a minimum
