Pull the knife away from your wrist. For god sakes let the balance of the season play out. Most signs suggest he's almost back to health. - The Law
With a whopping 22 games left. Don't be so dramatic.
You really think this is a cut and dry easy decision with what to do with him? |

You really think these guys, and their agents, care about their "hometown team"?
Newsflash: They don't. - Pecafan Fan
Agents, probably not, but they do care about their clients' happiness or they'll lose their clients. Players, some might, others might not. To paint them all with the same brush is ridiculous. |

Yes, yes I do. They're even talking about it on Sportsnet.

Tell me about the pay cut Clarkson took in order to play for his hometown team. |

He's still overpaid. But there were other teams offering more.
Leafs were willing to pay him that knowing what others were.
So yes. |

that's a load of poop.
if you're under the impression the opportunity to play for their hometown team doesn't factor into the decision making of some players unrestricted free agency contract decisions, you're clueless. destination counts more than money to a lot of players, and playing at home can absolutely be a factor. |

he allegedly wants 40 mil + over 7-8 years. but that's if you're to give anything kypreos has to say any credit whatsoever.
if bolland is trying to bend his hometown team over a barrel like that he can GTFO. - joel878
It's negotiations. If you want 5-6 years at 4 or 4.5 then when the team says submit a proposal you start with 7-8 at 5 per year. Nonis, if he makes a proposal at all will low ball him too. The middle ground is probably something close to Bozak's deal.
At the end of the day if he wants to be a Leaf AND if the Leafs want him to be a Leaf he probably ends up with a very Bozakian contract. |

if you believe what was reported, about 1.5 mil a season less than was offered by Edmonton.
nice to see you have the slightest clue what you're talking about though.

So you're saying, his agent used other teams in order to max out Clarkson's contract?
Talk about taking a pay cut in order to play for your "hometown team"! |

Just ask Bozak
Leafs said go look at open market. I'm sure some teams we're offering him the same or more given their needed situation and lots of money to spend. He came running home to be with his bff. |

No I'm saying, others team offered him more. Used that to get the most from toronto, but thats not to say he wasn't going to get more somewhere else.
He did take a pay cut. Whether we like it or not. |

Yes. For two very very good reasons.
1. The Leafs are in a playoff position; (they want him)
2. Bolland isn't healthy. (other teams don't want him)

Here's the truth about 'discounts'. They almost exclusively involve:
1. Players re-upping with their own team; and/or
2. Veterans, long in the tooth.
*Its list day. |

I think this is a very risky way of managing.... "I'm ok giving more because in a couple of years, if the league keeps increasing revenues, it'll be fine." |

Dozzer please explain that pay cut doesn't equal getting underpaid/still overpaid.
The frenchies don't seem to understand this concept. Must still be bitter about Gomez.
Yes, clarksons been poop and is getting paid right now more than what he brings. That's not the point. |
