2014 NHL prospect Aaron Irving

two-way dman, physical, good first pass. Decent skater. Hard shot from the point.

After going from really disliking Streit to almost liking him now, I'm willing to be patient with Vinny.

Not much of a choice....he's here for another 4 years.

Nikitin would an interesting depth move. I'm not as excited about Girardi hitting UFA as some. Not that he's not good, or that he wouldn't help. He would help. I just think he's going to get paid too much for what he is.

Niskanen is another guy who might get vastly overpaid this summer. It'll be interesting to see how the market plays out. guys like Ron Hainsey and Tom Gilbert signed for pennies late in the summer and had very good seasons in Carolina and Florida.

I'd still probably look at signing Dan Boyle to a short term deal, and also adding a guy like Stralman or Nikitin or Rafael Diaz to provide more mobility on the second or third pairs.

They could also hit the trade market, and see if they can pry a guy like Kevin Bieksa out of Vancouver, as Tomahawk suggested yesterday

- Jsaquella

I'll be shocked if Boyle would be willing to sign a short term deal. If he does, it's going to be for an over inflated salary to make up for the lack of term. Or a one year deal loaded with easily attainable bonuses that will drive the cost up in the end.

Nice run-down of the Vinny Problem:

Just another awful article that completely abuses analytics, and uses them without context.

I could really see Vinny being asked to waive his NTC this summer. With Schenn and Coots both coming on AND Laughton tearing up juniors I just dont see the fit anymore. Add in the locking up of Read as well. Someone is going to be the odd man out there.
- hereticpride

I think it's safe to assume that the Flyers knew that they have Schenn and Couturier, along with Laughton potentially at Center. If they thought that Lecavalier was a fit when they signed him, I don't see why they would think that he's not a fit now. But you never know.

Surface stats are still there, he's been good on the PP and in the o-zone.

On the other hand, the underlying numbers aren't very good -- he doesn't seem to be helping them where they need it most: possession and transition.

- Tomahawk

I think that he's greatly aided the transition game.

Of course there's a choice. I can choose to just wait and see, or I can jump to hating Vinny. I figure we've got enough people exploring option 2, so I'll take the road less traveled.

I'm concerned about Lecavalier, and I'm not sure how he fits now. It's pretty obvious the intent was to shift Schenn to wing and have Lecavalier play the middle.

Vinny's struggled, not saying he's washed up as yet. I hope he rebounds, because I like him and want him to succeed here.

He's had a tough time fitting in so far. I'm not going to ignore his struggles. Still, how many players had a tough start to the year, or have otherwise had bad stretches? I think he deserves a chance. Besides, it's not like I'm going to earn some kind of Complainingful Buy Out (CBO) to use on him.

He's been bounced around and banged up. I'm disappointed in his play thus far, and I am concerned. That said, I'm not sold he's finished. He'll probably have to adapt to a new role, but he's still got something left to give.

Jaeckal reporting Hartnell for Bickell trade was discussed:

I have heard two trade rumors now, from two separate strong sources, that have the Hawks shopping Bickell. First with the Jets in a deal possibly involving Andrew Ladd, and most recently with the Flyers, for forward Scott Hartnell. Both deals would have involved other players—not straight up swaps.

The Flyers deal, I’m told, never went anywhere. I don’t know whether or not the Hawks have continued discussions with the Jets.

My source on the Flyers’ talks—again a very good source—told me there is/has been too much action with the Hawks to list in an brief email. Is it trade action? Internal discussions within the organization as to whether to make moves or not? I don’t know.

Less cash & years, but Bickell isn't as good as Hartnell...He's never scored more than 20 goals and he's not exactly a kid anymore, himself at age 27.

You don't really need to look at analytics to see that Lecavalier has struggled since his injury. He clearly hasn't been the same player after the injury that he was before. Simply look at his goal production. He was scoring at a 33 goal pace before the injury over a 22 game span. After the injury, he's scored at a 10 goal pace over 24 games. He was a player that was hard on the puck, and went hard to the net before the injury. After the injury, he's a player that wasn't strong on the puck, and wasn't around the net much. I think it's clear what happened. Then you throw in being moved around and adjusting to a new position. If Lecavalier doesn't come back from this break looking stronger and showing signs of being the same player he was in the beginning of the Season, then I'll have some real concerns.

Yeah, I'd hope so...I knew Bickell was getting paid after the playoffs and not a fan.

Now if it was Pirri invloved...
