Yeah, a few one-timers and a couple of plays coming from behind the net... besides that, he's looked like he's wading waist-deep in quicksand, and taking really poor care of the puck.
- Tomahawk

overall, i was happy that you guys signed him. him and streit.

Haha yeah, at least Shero's mistakes are just rentals... Homer's are like a bad case of herpes.

Streit's played fairly well. He should be on the top PP, but what can you do?

Streit wasn't a mistake; his stats have been good despite being stuck playing with Grossmann most of the time. Vinny's back injury was not predictable.

Overpaying a defenseman who cant defend for 8 years was a mistake even before Letang had a stroke.

Surface stats are still there, he's been good on the PP and in the o-zone.

On the other hand, the underlying numbers aren't very good -- he doesn't seem to be helping them where they need it most: possession and transition.

That is a concern, i agree they could have been better served by Hainsey or Gilbert on a short term deal, but that's crying over the beer I spilled three weeks ago.

He looks to be playing better, so I'm willing to reserve judgement on that acquisition.

And I'm sure Homer is breathing a little easier right now.

* Philadelphia City Paper had a cover story about some obsessive puck bunny who wrote 5,000 fantasies starring Gary Dornhoefer. I skipped that article, but found out later that she apparently had posted on a variety of hockey message boards with the handle "Horny4Dorny."

Bill is in Texas, likely walking around with a gun and some birthday cake, so I doubt it.

After going from really disliking Streit to almost liking him now, I'm willing to be patient with Vinny.

I see, a storyteller's embellishment. Well done, you had me believing!

Speaking of beer, it's about that time...

Cheers!

take out the stroke issue, as thats a level of unforeseeability bordering on ridiculousness. but just at the 8year deal for what its worth. starting tomorrow, who do you think gets traded with the least amount of difficulty? letang, streit, or vinny?

only one of those probably yield any sort of return, and a decent one at that

Market's gonna be what it's always been -- teams that join the fray in July overpay and make mistakes, teams that stay and rummage through August/September find fantastic values.

Niskanen and Girardi are July players. Nikitin, possibly August.

- Tomahawk

That's really not an accurate depiction of what happens in the market. Home runs are hit in July, as well as failures. And not every deal made in August and September is a success.
