Lol we are talking about the same GM who traded JVR for Schenn, and Bobrovsky for Mason, right?

Suddenly he's wise?

- Otsegolectric

Actually he never traded Bobrovsky for Mason......two separate deals ..... Months apart.

Not a fan of making the deal for him -- I just don't think you can predict what he'll command based on what Grossmann (impending UFA) and Meszaros (salary albatross) were traded for.
- Tomahawk

That Grossmann was an impending UFA had some effect on the cost. And I'm sure that Meszaros salary was a factor in TB trading him. Although I wouldn't call his deal an albatross. But the biggest factor is how good is the player, in terms of what the cost is. And both Grossmann and Meszaros at the time of those deals were better players then Daley is now in my opinion. I'm not really interested in Daley, but the most I would give up for him is a 2nd round pick and either a later pick like a 5th, or a mid level prospect. I would not trade a single current roster player in the deal for Daley.

Nope, don't expect any big trades. This just doesn't seem to be the season for it for a number of reasons, at least imho. A couple smart tweak-like moves could benefit the Flyers, but I'd also be ok if they rode out the season with the squad they've got and hope everybody steps up their game for the push to the post season.

Still, the Flyers being what they are, never say never...

Happy B-Day Lily Claire!

Since any major upgrade is likely to come in offseason, do you guys think Girardi and Niskanen hit free agency? They seem to be best out there so how much do they get? Also what about Nikitin? I don't see Columbus much so I don't know his strengths/weaknesses. Not advocating anything for Flyers, just wonder what you all feel the market will be this summer.

It was Bobo, Jeff Carter and RJ Umberger for Mason, Zherdev and Micheal Ratchuk, if my memory serves me correctly. .

Market's gonna be what it's always been -- teams that join the fray in July overpay and make mistakes, teams that stay and rummage through August/September find fantastic values.

Niskanen and Girardi are July players. Nikitin, possibly August.

Wait, puck bunny and Horny4Dorny were deleted from my comment even though they are direct quotes from the article? And the penis firework display is still firing away?

Nikitin would an interesting depth move. I'm not as excited about Girardi hitting UFA as some. Not that he's not good, or that he wouldn't help. He would help. I just think he's going to get paid too much for what he is.

Niskanen is another guy who might get vastly overpaid this summer. It'll be interesting to see how the market plays out. guys like Ron Hainsey and Tom Gilbert signed for pennies late in the summer and had very good seasons in Carolina and Florida.

I'd still probably look at signing Dan Boyle to a short term deal, and also adding a guy like Stralman or Nikitin or Rafael Diaz to provide more mobility on the second or third pairs.

They could also hit the trade market, and see if they can pry a guy like Kevin Bieksa out of Vancouver, as Tomahawk suggested yesterday

Honestly, the most attractive thing about Daley to the Flyers means that Berube would likely play him regularly, unlike Gustafsson, and they'd finally have some mobility in the line up on defense.

I still don't think Daley is much of an upgrade on Gustafsson. I certainly have no interest if it costs Read-or an equivalent player-and a second rounder.

I could really see Vinny being asked to waive his NTC this summer. With Schenn and Coots both coming on AND Laughton tearing up juniors I just dont see the fit anymore. Add in the locking up of Read as well. Someone is going to be the odd man out there.

Bill. What would the asking price be for Daley? I was thinking it would be Read and a 2nd.
- SchennBros

I'm not sure there'd be much of a market. I was as excited as anyone, and Lecavalier did play well early in the season, despite the team around him struggling.

But it seemed as the rest of the team really started playing better, his play dipped.

Yeah, a few one-timers and a couple of plays coming from behind the net... besides that, he's looked like he's wading waist-deep in quicksand, and taking really poor care of the puck.
