I don't think Bourque has a whole lot of value.

Hemsky for Markov though is interesting. Both players have injury histories and both are doubtless not what they once were. I like the offensive depth for Montreal and the defensive veteran for Edmonton and Montreal gets almost 5 years younger in this deal I think?

If you guys still think Markov is a key part of your roster though, then your opinions here are more valid than mine

How does trading a pending UFA for another pending UFA at the trade deadline makes any sense?

they'll get more prospects. they have tradeable assets. And Markov is still tradeable post-deadline, as the blog suggests.
- EricEngels

Trading Markov before the 1st of july will not help the Habs being contenders in the near future. Come on now.

It would make sense if you thought you had a better chance at signing the other UFa and he fit better with your future plans. But in that paticular case Hemsky doesn't fit any of the criteria

I like Markov. Always have. Very cognizant of what he brings offensively, and what he can and cannot do defensively. As he gets older, even without further injury, he is going to get even slower. Three years for him at that price tag, is extremely irresponsible.
- hscesq

Exactly

Irresponsible is the right term.

I did find it interesting that the Habs are 19th in terms of capspace. I always seen them at the top.

It doesn't.

Even if we somehow thought a swap of pending UFA's made sense:

Markov can bring the Habs at least a first rounder if they trade him.

Hemsky's value is much lower.

Not to mention, why the h would EDM want Markov?

Its a tough spot no matter how you cut it. They can't replace him just yet with any of the younger guys and he can be of benefit but at the same time Bergevin is up against the wall re. contract.
- Pie

I think a lot of teams have similar situations, where it is pretty tough to decide what to do. WTF does Nonis do with Bolland?

And likely Markov's 5 teams from his MNTC likely involves them

nope. everything you write in here--directed at me--is a shot or an insult. As I've told you before, I'm always happy to debate the content, but you have zero respect in your comments. It's tiring, and I don't think it should be allowed to stand as a precedent for the people that come here everyday.

do you really believe the value of players rights in the summer is better than trading them as a rental?

I dont think I can remember the last time the habs traded a pending UFA in the summer for anything

He talks about it IN THE LEAFS THREAD. BOOM!

Also, I wouldn't give Bolland 4.5 to over 5M per year.... for a third line center it's way too much.

Right about where they are in terms of contention. As we've seen in the past, cap space can change in a summer.

Markov's 5 teams are Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Minnesota and Ottawa.

His wife looks hot in a winter parka.
