Trade Markov to LA. That team has one of the worst PP in the league. They desperately need someone to play with Drew Doughty on the PP.

Markov is the 13th most productive Dman on the PP. Will fetch a lot.

I could see the return being a 1st + Toffoli.

Doubtful.

At the deadline Markov will fetch a deal similar do what the Leafs got for Kaberle. At the draft a conditional 5th in 2015.

?? I thought it was Joe Colborne, 1st, and a conditional 2nd

Would you have a problem with a 1st, 2nd, and a prospect?

He's valuable, very. But do they need an aging defenseman or good prospects/picks? You have a choice to make here.
- BashCH

can they have both?

Prospects are not only obtained in the 1st round...quality drafting and development.

Guys like Murray, Bouillon, Moen and so on can fetch you 3rd to 7th rounders...trade those guys, who are easily replaceable to teams looking to patch bottom of the roster holes...

You don't trade a guy like Markov when you have no one to replace him. I like Beaulieu, but I'd like to see him as a regular for an extended period of time before determining that Markov is expendable. (now.)

I like Markov. Always have. Very cognizant of what he brings offensively, and what he can and cannot do defensively. As he gets older, even without further injury, he is going to get even slower. Three years for him at that price tag, is extremely irresponsible.
- hscesq

I get what you're saying, but if that's what it takes to keep him, even if it's to see him move into a smaller role with young guys taking his place, I think it's worth it.

It sure as hell is less irresponsible to keep such an asset than to just lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

Yeah, look at all the contenders in the NHL...all their top players were drafted from rounds 3-7...everyone knows that. Thanks 23 for opening my eyes.

You don't trade Markov to trade him, but you trade him for proven prospects who will be even better in 3 years when this team should aim to be a contender. Hence Toffoli.

Toffoli, Galchenyuk, Gallagher wouldn't be such a bad line 3 years from now IMO

No doubt he will get two, and if he's healthy he deserves two. But three is very risky.
- hscesq

Offering a 1 year deal is ridiculous, borderline offensive by MB.

Best to trade him at this point, unless they can agree on 2.

The point of that was that it's about what's best for the team, not about what makes the fans happy (which in this case is almost nothing).

Also, why are you here?

I am reading the comment section of a cheerleaders blog who thinks he is above the fans, as the comment section has better opinions on the current situation then the cheerleader could ever come up with.

Why are you in the comment section?
