I haven't paid much attention to the Habs, but didn't I read somewhere (here?) that Markov was having a really poor season and was really not the player he used to be?
I am surprised that re-signing him is being considered?
How about Hemsky for Markov?

My guess is EDM is not interested in getting any better right now...

He had a slow start, and he doesn't have the speed that he used to, but he is adjusting his positioning to accomadate the lack of speed and he is still a threat on the PP. |

meh, he's been fine top 20 in D points and still a +, he's a great PP QB but as expected is slowing down. |

The guy is avg 25 mins a game and is still contributing in a positive way. I don't know that the Habs can give him 18 mill over 3 but no doubt someone will. |

Don't get too excited, it is unlikely that he will post again and it is more likely that he is in the process of either writing a mean spirited PM to myself or a crying PM to someone wo will ban me. |

Imagine, you're a rookie/young kid who looks up to Markov as the most tenured hab, and they go and trade him away...it just sends a message that they are all chess pieces and it's a business...
Although it is...that's not the message you want to send...not at this time. Had they done this last year, I'd be all for it (and as I said earlier, living and dying with the kids)...but doing it now would just reek of desperation...and almost an admission that the team is not as good as it's current record... - number_23
What are you talking about??
Nobody, no players thinks like that anymore.
It's a buisness. Even more for the players than the owners. Markov wants to play the longest for the most cash possible. If it's not with the Habs, it will be somewhere else, probably in a sunny, hot City. |

Markov is having a decent season, puts up points and logs big minutes for the team.
He's not as fast as he used to be but he still brings plenty to the team. |

How about Bourque for Hemsky? - BashCH
I don't think Bourque has a whole lot of value.
Hemsky for Markov though is interesting. Both players have injury histories and both are doubtless not what they once were. I like the offensive depth for Montreal and the defensive veteran for Edmonton and Montreal gets almost 5 years younger in this deal I think?
If you guys still think Markov is a key part of your roster though, then your opinions here are more valid than mine

EE, how can the habs possibly let this go passed Mar 5
obviously you cant trade him after the deadline and now he has all the negotiation power he either gets his 3 years deal or he walks for nothing |

There's a big difference there...Rivet was a useless tool who's time in MTL was done.
getting rid of guys like Bouillon, Moen, Murray...that's one thing...Getting rid of a guy like Markov, that would be totally different IMO. - number_23
He fetched the Habs Pacioretty and Gorges.
Imagine, if he was a tool, what Markov would get you. |

Its a tough spot no matter how you cut it. They can't replace him just yet with any of the younger guys and he can be of benefit but at the same time Bergevin is up against the wall re. contract. |
