My favorite part of that story is River saying he was happy to leave, female doging about Montreal because he was tired of the cold and having to scrape the ice from his car's windshield...and being traded to Buffalo not very long after. - stinger67

they'll get more prospects. they have tradeable assets. And Markov is still tradeable post-deadline, as the blog suggests. - EricEngels
What could we see for Markov's rights? a 4th? a 3rd? bumped to a 2nd or 1st if he signs?
I don't recall comparables and what they fetched... |

I'd say a 2nd rounder at best. |

Yeah, so they get a 5th instead of a 1st, like what they got from Wisnewski (who had more value than Markov has right now). Or they can give his rights to the Leafs, à la Sundin.
Thinking they can get anything of value by trading his rights AFTER the playoffs is ludigrous.
I hope Bergevin is currently upping the ante. |

ok, so a 2nd rounder from a middle of the pack team or worst (who would try to improve in the summer by obtaining Markov's rights) isn't that far off from a 1st rounder from a contender (who would likely acquire him now for a playoff run)...
So this sort of goes against your initial stance...no?

If Bergevin really sticks to a one to two year offers which Markov would probably refuse since he could receive a contract twice as long, he should just trade him and give the icetime to our young defensemen.
I don't think signing Markov for 3 years at the same pricetag he has right now is such a risk that it's worth risking losing him for nothing. |

Trade Markov to LA. That team has one of the worst PP in the league. They desperately need someone to play with Drew Doughty on the PP.
Markov is the 13th most productive Dman on the PP. Will fetch a lot.
I could see the return being a 1st + Toffoli. |

He won't just fetch a late 1st rounder at the deadline. |

I like Markov. Always have. Very cognizant of what he brings offensively, and what he can and cannot do defensively. As he gets older, even without further injury, he is going to get even slower. Three years for him at that price tag, is extremely irresponsible. |

They'll need to add something else (BUT NOT ANDRIGHETTO!!!!), but I hope there's something to work around this |

I find people are making too big of a deal with Markov's injury history...Yes it limits his skating now, but he's not more injury prone than the average NHLer...
If the argument is that he's got nothing left in the tank fine...but if the argument is that he's an injury risk I just don't buy into that logic. Hell, the odds are on his side now, he's already suffered 2 career altering injuries...what are the odds he suffers a 3rd?
*hopes he didn't just jinx Markov* |

Toffoli was a mid 2nd rounder. He's really good, but his value is not that of a top 15 pick, so I think/hope they would be open to trading him. |

At the deadline Markov will fetch a deal similar do what the Leafs got for Kaberle. At the draft a conditional 5th in 2015. |

Doesn't matter where you're drafted...when they see talent it's expensive. You think the Bruins would've traded Patrice Bergeron or Milan Lucic because they were mid 2nd rounders ? |

Who do we think the trade partners would be? I don't see him traded to anyone in the East, who in the West needs a puck moving D that can afford him and are ready to contend? St. Louis doesn't need him. Colorado? Not ready to contend and if PA-P is the return, no thanks. If ROR is the return, yes please! |

well to me its pretty simple you have to sign him before Mar 5th or you have to trade him, you cannot let this be another example of losing an UFA for nothing, we have all seen that way to many times |

Who said he's no value to the Habs?
He's so much value to the Habs that he will be value to another team who will trade future for a chance at a cup run. |

He's valuable, very. But do they need an aging defenseman or good prospects/picks? You have a choice to make here. |

I hope you're wrong...
Also, Markov's game is more about smoothness than speed (although I'll conceded he can't lose much more footspeed and still remain effective...you can be as smooth as silk, but if you're not moving, it won't get you anywhere... ) |
