So what's the fun topic today?

Grossmann sucks?
Tear apart team/future for one player?
Holmgren must go?
Giroux didn't deserve the extension?
Trade all of our vets (ignore NTCs) and throw the season for a better pick?

- jmatchett383

The only unreasonable option here is Holmgren must go. I'm thinking lifetime contract. He's done yeomans work with that blueline.

1. You'd be lucky to get 1 2nd for Grossman
2. Daley isn't worth Matt Read and a pick
3. That blue-line is actually worse then the one we have now
4. Cousins is nowhere close to being NHL ready

Read + 2nd for Dailey. Trade Grossmann for 2 2nds. Sign either MacDonald, Markov, or Girardi in the offseason.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Raffl-Couturier-Laughton
Newberry-Cousins-Rinaldo

Girardi/Markov/MacDonald-Coburn
Dailey-Schenn
Streit-Gus/Morin/Alt/Laurdsen

- SchennBros

Unless Ray Shero has another brain cramp, I doubt anyone is giving up two 2nds for Grossmann. I would also stay away from Markov, he's an injury just waiting to happen.

How about this: Why Matt Read will be "the player traded" for a defenseman.

I'm thinking Read and a 2nd for Dailey. I wonder if Bill could give his imput if this would be acceptable for Dallas.

- SchennBros

I'd be (frank)ing livid if they traded Read for Trevor Daley. Just play Erik Gustafsson. He can do most of what Daley does, but probably isn't as good in his own end.

I'd have to disagree on everything but the Cousins comment. I havent seen enough of cousins to know for sure, but I think he could be ready for a limited 4th line role.

You most certainly can get at least a 2nd rounder for Grossmann. And most likely 2 would be fair value. Perfect pick-up for a playoff bound team that needs a defensive d-man.

Read and a pick is defianetely fair value for Daley.

And IMO that blueline is more balanced then our current one. And IMO its not about the ability of each player, but how they will play as a unit.

Well I would hire some shady mad scientists and get to cloning Orr, Bourque, Lemieux and Gordie Howe, but thats just me....

But arent we looking to get better in our own zone? And IMO Gus has been very inconsistant, and very injury prone. Not someone I want penciled into our top 4. Maybe on the 3rd pairing.

And dont get me wrong. I like Read, but that is what you will have to give up to get Daley. Think about it another way... If we traded Coburn to a team, what would you expect back? A decent 2 way forward and a pick right?

Terry Murray was recently quoted as saying that Cousins is nowhere near ready for the NHL, it would be much better for his development to continue in the AHL next year.

Grossmann will get them a 2nd at best, the market for slow, stay at home types, is much less than it is for puck movers.

That blueline is better than our current only if Girardi is the guy they sign, guys like MacDonald or the injury prone Markov aren't what they need.

Read and a pick is most likely what a guy like Daley will cost, I just don't think its worth it. I agree with Jsaq, I'd rather go with Gus than part with what it will take to land Daley

Daley is 5'10 Matt Carle without the offense and a better first step... not sure if that fills the need of replacing Kimmo, or Pronger (or Carle).

Yes, it's fair value. But that doesn't mean it helps the team. Read is a proven 20-goal scorer, can play anywhere in the lineup, has great speed, and is an exceptional PKer. I'm not giving him up for a better version of Gustafsson.

Daley is not as good as Coburn. Coburn is bigger, more physical than Daley, and he is a better penalty killer. Coburn would get you a 1st and a prospect or another pick in a trade.

Lol, reading about Markov getting offered 1-year $6M on TSN, but wanting 3-years, and the top-rated comments are all about "he's cooked, nobody is stupid enough to offer him 3-years"... and all I can think of is

"We'll do 5!"

- Tomahawk

Not only would it be acceptable for Dallas. But they'd get on the phone for the trade call as fast as possible. If Holmgren agreed to that, then he truly could be called a dolt.

I'm going to assume you mean Trevor Daley, I'm pretty sure they could get Bob Dailey back for pretty much nothing since he is 60 years old.

I think Bill Dailey is out of the question, too.

Its my opinion that you can't replace Timonen or Pronger... so dont try by trading Couts or Schenn plus for Buff and/or Yandle. I think you need to just put together a defense that doesnt focus on the abilities and talent of 1-2 guys, and just goes out there and gets the job done as a group. Get guys that can skate or pass out of the zone so the forwards can focus on offense. And get guys that are good enough defensively to give Mason a chance to stop the puck. That is all I will ask from our defense next year.

I think the problem is that people are looking to replace guys like Kimmo or Pronger. That doesnt happen.

What needs to happen is that we need a better mix of d-men back at the point.

Say we make a few moves over the next 8 months...
Matty Niskanen is a free agent we are able to sign him
We make a trade with Fla for RFA Dmitry Kulikov

Coburn-Streit
Schenn-Kulikov
Niskanen-Gussy
Grossmann.

That is a younger much more mobile defense and we didnt have to bend ourselves over a barrel and show us the 50 states.

Also, after reading Ek's last post, I'm not sure I can wrap my head around Marty Brodeur playing for another team.
