Yes agreed, but the talent gap between Canada and Latvia may have even been greater than the Soviet Red Army team and the US amateurs.

Although didn't that Soviet team win 7 of 8 games against NHL teams prior to those Olympics? I thought I saw that somewhere.

- PLindbergh31

It was something like that. In the 1976 series, the Red Army team beat everyone, except the Habs (3-3 tie) and the Flyers.

Sbisa for Kimmo... think the Flyers would do that, present standings considered?
- Tomahawk

Nope. I don't think Kimmo gets traded unless he demands it.

Their fans almost love hating on him as much as our fans love hating on Luke Schenn.

Maybe it's the first name....

As a Flyer?

Have we forgotten about the reign of Bruno Gervais so quickly?

Can you imagine Sbsia and Schenn being a defensive pairing?

Oh God. Hockeybuzz would be done. Finished. The internet would break.

Yep. I knew that about 76'. Interesting debate. I mean Latvia's best dman is Oskars Bartulis. Wasn't Latvia the only team in the tourney without a single active NHL player?

I saw a Grossmann/LSchenn pairing one night.

That pairing drove me to drink.

Bartulis can still develop into an excellent d-man. He's still young enough. How do you know he won't?

What if he does? What if he's the next Pronger?

My snark-o-meter 5000 might be broken, but Pronger was a real phenom when he was drafted.

His offensive numbers and his collective skill set were absurd from a pretty young age.

You are correct. I watched that game and didn't recognize any of the names. Just looked at their roster and he's the only active NHL player.

That would have been incredible, if Latvia got a lucky bounce or something they could have done the impossible.

my one gripe with this whole thing is that malkin was by no means held off of the scoresheet in that series.
