This explains a lot… http://www.csnphilly.com/...rs-need-impact-defenseman

I was wondering where the irrational need to obtain a top defenseman at all costs came from.

“Right now, if there is something we can do that can help our team a little bit down the stretch, we would look at doing it as long as it doesn’t disrupt what we have stockpiled. I don’t foresee anything major.”

I liked that quote very much

I read that and my first thought was... "Oh poop, we're (frank)ed".

Just remember, they need to acquire one at all costs, except for Morin.

I don't think you can idly sit by an wait for one to happen via draft, either. You have to work at it from both angles. Obviously, they haven't done so great with that in the past, but they've added a good number of blueline prospects over the past two years or so. I think there's room to believe they're wising up, if only a bit.
- BulliesPhan87

I remember two years ago when people complained about the lack of defense depth in the system. It was pretty universal in that we felt the Flyers needed to develop dmen better through the draft. I was willing to be patient and patch together the D as we waited for the young guys to come along. Many people felt that way then, but are growing impatient now.

what happened to your knee capfx
- jak521

I fractured it ice skating at the end of November, required surgery. Fortunately, I'm almost out of the woods with the recovery.

That's one of the ways to hit on one. Don't hand out early round draft picks like a department store santa claus. Giving picks away for aging quick fixes is bad business all around. The more volume of picks you have, the more lines you have in the water, the more likely you will land the big fish.

Well, in defense, many of these people probably expected them to develop within hours after being drafted.

Panaccio is such a poop starter. He's the king of the irrational fan. "We need an elite defenseman, but we can't part with our good prospects for him"

I'm hoping for around 20-25 points. Not a lot but he should be able to chip in some points.

I know you live in the area so you probably catch a lot of flyers games. Did you watch them much last year?

It was more of a medical lingo joke..

Whats wrong with your knee capfx

fx=fracture

EDIT: And now the picture loaded and I see you had (now it looks healed and in good alignment) a pretty decent transverse fracture.

Tough break. No pun intended.

Yes, but brandishing a hockey stick and joking with the media with a little smirk on their faces, telling people that "they're in the trash, where they belong."

The Leafs were in desperate need of a power forward. They got one for next to nothing.

The unfortunate truth is they can't do everything at once. They had to address a generally bare pipeline of talent, reverse a general trend of not developing defensemen, maintain the course on a rebuild, and fix a bad mix on the backend at the NHL level. All this, while still trying to make the playoffs (I still say screw tanking, it's good for the young players to find ways to win). It's not all going to happen overnight, or even in one offseason.

It's not exactly comfortable, but I still have patience with this franchise on the short term. I don't expect them to be a cup caliber team yet, since tradepocalypse.

I remember him writing an article about how the Flyers should sign Clarkson last offseason. He thought 3 years $3M AAV would get it done.

I agree with you. Tanking is dumb in hockey. There are usually good players at the front end of the draft, but all stars can be found all over the first round.

Young players need to learn how to win. Look at the Oilers as a prime example.
