They don't need Ryan Callahan. I would be shocked if the Flyers showed any serious interest. Im sure they will kick the tires as they always do, but that is about it.
- MBFlyerfan

Gosh, I hope you're right. But right now, if Downie isn't brought back and if Raffl doesn't solidify a roster spot for next season -- which I think/hope he does -- I could see them being in.

I hope you are right. I don't hate him, as a player. I hate the salary and term he will command.

I wouldn't trade for him. I'm talking about FA.
- PhillySportsGuy

I'd Still go with Boyle, sing him to a big money, short term deal to provide a bridge to the kids and leave open a possible deal for a better, younger defenseman if one opens up in another year or two, rather than go 5-7 years with Girardi and have that kind of cash and term tied up in a guy that is solid, but not a legit top pair guy

Yes. But remember, Clowe had 0 goals on the season, and Murray, well, he's pretty bad. They could get by without. Us losing Timonen is waving a white flag.

Now, for a ridiculous offer, (1st+legit prospect) I'd listen.

we did just fine without timonen this year

That's the rub with MacDonald. If they could get him for a 2nd rounder and Tye McGinn, fine, do it. If not, walk away

I'll hate myself for this, but...do you think the Flyers should go after him?
- jmatchett383

Which one Carle, Girardi or Boyle?

I'm guessing you meant Carle

I like him a lot. Not sure where he'd fit though.

Yeah, and we did just fine with Bruno Gervais in our top 3 at the end of last year. So let's do that every year.

I think Tampa is pretty satisfied with him. I don't think they'd trade him without an overpayment.

All things being equal I'd like him on this team right now. I just think it would be a tough pill to swallow for the Flyers organization if they traded an asset for a guy they let walk.

If Callahan makes it to UFA, I would think there would be a mountain of Pegula-money waiting for him... with the Upstate ties, and the Sabres looking to move Ott, and all.

Edit: I was more scared of them signing Clarkson. Callahan is actually a good player at the end of the day.

Gotta love that Pegula dough.

I would make it a 3rd and McGinn, with an optional 2nd in 2015 if he signs with us.

He's manning the point on the Phantoms 29th ranked PP. We can't afford to mess with that chemistry.

If I were rich, thats probably how I'd be spending my money. Except it would be on the Flyers and Temple athletics.

That'd be even better, but they're going to get more. Douglas Murray got a 2nd rounder last year and another conditional second(which didn't come to pass as Pittsburgh let him go).

MacDonald will get more, or should get more than that.

Give them Meszaros back. lol. Give us the d-men you give up on, we will make them better, then give them back. Great formula.

Ok, well this draft is pretty weak. Go ahead and make it a 2nd this year, McGinn, and a conditional 2nd next year. Getting warmer?

MacDonald is a decent player. I think he could flourish in the right situation. NYI ask too much of him. If a team can put him on the 2nd pairing he could look much better.

McGinn has next to no value. Teams view him as a tweener. They will want, at least, 2 ends guaranteed.

I'd look into Kevin Bieksa as a semi-affordable trade option at the deadline or draft -- Canucks have issues. He's cost-controlled, and can be a younger bridge than Boyle.

Then grab Diaz if he makes it to UFA and pair him with his Swiss partner Streit.

Both mobile right shots, neither breaks the bank, a complete makeover of the d-corps without risking another albatross/eggs-in-one-basket scenario.
