Big, mobile defense, solid goaltending and a team full of guys all willing to check their egos and commit to the system.
They were just hitting their stride by the time they played Sweden. - Aetherial Add to this some of the best centers in the game ,and you could see that we owned the middle of the ice .The overall lack of scoring ,is probably due to so/so collection of wingers

Yeah they looked real deflated.
There is really no way you could picture them being motivated after losing to Canada. I would expect Canada would have been exactly the same if they were playing for the bronze. - Aetherial
I do't think so, too much pride. |

The defensive pairings and the centres owned the defensive zone. For me that was the key to their total on-ice domination.
Edit: and factor in a defensive system coached by Julienne, Hitchc'ock and Babc'ock. |

Yep if there was a weakness it would have been exposed/stood out...It didn't because it was the perfect team to accomplish what they went over for..
Absolutely the best team to ever represent this country as it was a no competition tourney for Canada.. - Fruitcakenipple
i agree. may not of havad the offense everyone was hoping for but when it came to playing as a team and paying attention to detail.. especially in their own end.. great team.
just no other way of putting it. |

You keep Kulie and Raymond for the playoffs, IMO.
Those 2nd or 3rd round picks won't do jack for years...
Why mess with what's working, plus having Bolland and Smith back helps.
Do we really think we won't see another injury before the playoffs?? |

Curious, by what metric are they 7th?
League-wide they're 10th.
5th in the conference
1st in the wildcard
4th in the division |

TSN has them 7...Top 3 teams in each conference and Leafs 7th/Det 8th...U are ignoring the top 3 in each and it doesn't work like that...
season ended now leafs would be playing the #2 place bruins.. |

You're combining new and old rankings
Side note: I've decided I don't like the new standing system.
Why can't we just have the top-8 teams from each conference make it, division leaders be damned? |

I'm not very impressed by the quality of the comments this morning, I find it very prosaic, bromidic and interminable.
That is all. |

not how it works
of the two division leaders the highest ranked one plays the second wild card.. the second of the two plays the 1st wild card
the 2nd and 3rd place team of each division play each other
therefore.. if the playoffs were to start today the matchups would look like this:
Penguins vs Red Wings
Bruins vs Maple Leafs
Lightning vs Canadiens
Rangers vs Flyers
