Adding a 4th OHL over age player for the Flyers to look at.
Alex Basso - (D) - London
Dylan Smoskowitz - (RW) - Oshawa
Barclay Goodrow - (RW) - North Bay
Zack Mitchell - (C/RW) - Guelph (newest addition)
Not saying any will become super stars but when you look at the forward prospect depth at least it could use some more young potential talent. |

Am I interpreting this correctly? Timonen thinks that the Flyers have no chance, so that's why he went to the Olympics? If that's the case, then I would expect Timonen to ask the Flyers to trade him to a team that has a chance. And continue that selfish behavior. - MJL
Playing for your country of origin in the Olympics is a personal decision and is no benefit to your employer. (Ask the Isles if you think otherwise) I get it that he wanted to play one final time in the Olympics because he is at the end of his career but lets say the Flyers were serious contenders. Does he forgo the Olympics and rest? It may be speculation but I would say he might because every player wants his name on the cup. And he may very well want to play for one last chance for a cup so him asking for a trade wouldn't suprise me one bit. |

If he was that selfish, he probably wouldn't have signed a 1 year deal with the Flyers after missing the playoffs, and would have had his choice of top contenders to go to. |

I'm not a big fan of the pro's participating in the Olympics but couldn't you say this about any NHL player on a cup contender?
Are you saying Kane, Toews, Perry, Getzlaf, etc were all being selfish when they decided to play in Sochi? |

You really think he would have gotten the money he got from the Flyers elsewhere? Everyone knows the Flyers overpay for aging past their prime defenseman. |

I agree. This teams playoff hopes depended on our best but aging defensman. If he cared one iota for the Flyers, he would have skipped the olympics and rested his battered body for one final playoff run. I guess he knows what we all know that the Flyers have no chance this year so he thought of himself instead of his teammates. - Daveflyers36
Ah yes. No chance.
They have no chance to make noise in the playoffs this year with Giroux leading the league in points since Thanksgiving or something, and have no chance with Mason, who has been nothing short of stellar. No chance with one of the best shutdown centers in the league at their disposal. No chance because of their great special teams performance.
No chance. They certainly haven't shown they could elevate their game when playing the league's best.
Not a chance. They certainly don't have the NHL's 5th best record over the last few months either. |

Kimmo should play for 8.75 an hour and like it. The bastard.

If he wants one last chance for a cup, do you really think he gives a poop about a mil here or there? We're talking about a guy who just played in the Olympics for nothing. |

I don't care about the other players because I am not a fan of their teams. Also they are much younger players and they are in much better shape. Timonen is our best defenseman and if this team had any hope at all of atleast making the playoffs, he needed to be shutdown for these 3 weeks. Look what happened in 2010 when we made the cup finals. Both Timonen and Pronger didn't have anything left come June because they both were older and didn't take the time off during the Olympics. |

Letting pros play is worse for the fans of the nhl, the owners of the nhl teams as well as the fans of Olympics Hockey. It's only fun for the nhl players themselves.
I would actually watch the Olympics with a ton more interest if it was like it was in 1980. Give amateurs the chance to shine and have storylines that are compelling. |

Yup that's why! Forget the 3rd D pairing who would play 4 minutes a night.
Forget the goofy goalie carousel.
Forget Carter blowing it
It was all because Pronger and Kimmo played in the Olympics that year.

Lots of players that play on an contending NHL team, played in the Olympics. Timonen was not going to miss the Olympics regardless of what the makeup of his NHL team was. And I think there is little chance that Timonen asks for a trade.

Considering the NMC, you have to ask if he's interested and if he's not you can't move him. |

Agreed. That theory is preposterous. Further, they were that spent by the Olympics, don't you think that would have shown up all of the prior playoff games in May and June? Against NJ? Against Boston? mtl? |

I love the best players playing for their country in the Olympics.
That said I can't wait to see the Flyers again.
The Simmonds for Callahan rumor is really hilarious. Thanks for the laughs.
Carey Price was quietly amazing for Canada. He deserves a lot of praise.
And also there was a ton of criticism for the make up of team Canada.
I guess those guys picking the team knew what they were doing after all. |
