Why do care so much? Worry about your own team, they suck!

Agree! The guy is an irritant with 25 goal hands, dime a dozen?

Why would anyone give up a solid player, who is signed, (Simmonds, St. Louis, Pacioretty, Ryan, etc)for a rental?? (Even though Marty is old, I'm not giving him away for nothing). Edit, ok, not for nothing, but 1/2 a season.

I love both Callahan and Girardi, but at the risk of either not signing after the trade, and going back to NY in the summer?

- puckhead17

You can get 25 goal scorers from a lot of sources. Callahan is around that number. 25 goals is ok. DG is a minute eating, opposing teams best forward eating D man. Maybe done a dozen is a bit much but not as valuable as a guy like DG. Being an irritant is a bonus. The league has plenty of 25 goal scorers. The original comment was he wouldn't trade Marchand for a signed Dan Girardi so in his hypothetical he isn't a rental. I think most GMs would jump at getting Girardi at that price.

Jan, i respect you as a blogger and i always liked boomer and i dont doubt he has some sources...

but this guessing game nonsense is pathetic, imo. If he has news then he should share it. Instead he's playing "no its not that guy"

His feeling is that Ryan Callahan will be traded
His feeling is that only one of Callahan and Dan Girardi will be traded
“if it goes through it will be nuts around here.”
He thinks that Pitt will acquire Chris Stewart
The team is in the East
It’s 90% and works for both teams
Could be a 1 for 1 trade with potentially a conditional draft pick
It’s a forward
His sense is that fans would not be happy initially
Callahan will be going as a rental player
The trade doesn’t involve Stepan, Nash, Staal or Lundqvist
The deal makes the Rangers look like both sellers and buyers
It is not Callahan for Stewart
It is not for Matt Moulson
He has “major” respect for the player coming back
It is not Colorado
It is not for Brandon Dubinsky

what a joke

I think you undervalue Marchand, and if the league is littered with 25 goal scorers as you say, why do so many teams have trouble scoring?

Nashville, Minnesota, Florida, Buffalo, etc,
We agree on Girardi, Hell we need him in Philly badly!

The point is I can't see trading a proven signed asset, top 10 roster player for a solid UFA rental, whom I think will just resign in NY anyway 3 months later.

I said my dime a dozen characterization was a bit strong. They are more plentiful than what Girardi brings. I'm not under valuing Marchand as much as I'm valuing Girardi. Ask Claude Giroux what he thinks of Girardi. If the Rangers were to allow Girardi to leave Claude would drive him to the airport.

He can't just come right out and say the source, you know that. Do I like the intimation game, of course not, and yes it leave a lot of wiggle room. The 10% may be that the Rangers hope Callahan lowers his demands or present him with a revised offer that is acceptable. But if not, then the deal is all but signed and sealed.

Also, it does help the show, but as they always say on it, no one cares about hockey, Boomer. So not as if he can spend an hour discussing it.

Gotcha, now we agree!

Yes, a top defenseman is more valued, and yes, I would love to have Girardi, but not unsigned & at the expense of Simmonds.

And he sai he wouldn't trade Marchand for a SIGNED Girardi. That's where I disagrees with him.

Yes. That was my point. I don't know if I trade a Marchand for Girardi as a rental either

Sorry, I did miss that, maybe because Boston has more proven D men then we do?
But, the Bruins have enough depth up front to easily replace Marchand as well.
I guess it comes down to what each team needs, if Girardi was signed, and offered for Simmonds, Wow, I don't know if I would do that, only because I would be creating a hole to fill another one.
And we love Simmonds here!!

Totally agree with all that you say here. Especially the part in it depending on the need of a particular team.

Yes, the Bruins can replace Marchand way easier then we could replace Simmonds.

Geez, they have 20 goal scorers on the 3rd line, (practically)

Edit, but Simmonds gives us leadership & grit, and gumption, many elements besides scoring.

And they're down Seidenberg. So theyd be foolish not to kick the tires on the availability of DG.

Yes, but they have more depth on D then anyone realizes

Chara
Krug
Boychuck
Hamilton
Mcquaid
Bartkowski
There's a solid top 6 w/o Seidenberg
