Lots of chatter I am getting that it's Martin St. Louis, which makes sense. Tampa gets the leadership they want and a gritty forward while the Rangers gets a short term bump up in offense. St. Louis is signed for this year and next at $5.625, which helps the Rangers cap. The chatter I have heard, from a source with some decent info and another one, is that the conditional pick that Boomer mentioned kicks in if Callahan re-signs in Tampa.

St. Louis has long been my favorite non Ranger, would love that deal but am extremely frightened as to the long term effects, putting him back with Richards makes sense too

Chiarelli already came out and said he is only looking for depth pieces and staying away from bidding wars. It seems very unlikely that the Bruins would trade one of their top 6 players in a year where they are heavy favorites to return to the cup. If the Bruins do get Girardi it will be for picks and prospects.

That's not not what we're looking for and I'm pretty sure they already said they wouldn't give up their 1st either

He is more valuable than that. Right handed top pair d men. Rental or not he is a scarce commodity.

Why would TB do that?? Makes no sense for them.

St. Louis is signed or only one more year after this, he is 37 and they hope to convince Callahan to re-sign there. They have lots of talent forwards but don't really have a ton of grit, Purcell has in and Malone, though he is always hurt, so this gives them that in a top-six forward.

OK, that makes sense for the remainder of this year, but does that mean we are not going to buy out Richards this summer? That scares the hell out of me!

Just stating what I have heard and providing some rationale why it could occur but by no means is it a given.

Just because they got St. Louis now doesn't mean they won't buy out Richards. St. Louis only has one more year left, so can't base decisions on Richards on that.

Yeah seems like Chiarelli isn't keen on trading their 1st. I wish there was a deal to be made because Girardi would certainly help the Bruins.

Nobody ever said the Rangers getting involved with St. Louis had to be the Blues.

Nah, this is an individual case and fueled by what Boomer said. I didn't break anything.

Understood, but if they show some of that former chemistry it might influence their thinking.

The only part of this that makes me wonder is Boomer said he has "huge respect" for the player the Rangers would get back. If that's the case St. Louis makes sense, as illogical as the whole thing sounds.

Didn't he also say he is the type of player that you hate when he is in the other uniform, but love when he's in yours? This is going to be interesting. I actually think Boomers knows something here.

Why would Tampa do this trade though? If they have St. Louis for another year, why risk losing Callahan to free agency? Do they think getting Stamkos back will give them enough offense for the rest of this season?

Does St. Louis have any type of NTC?

Then it's not St. Louis. It could be Ott, but that will not sit well with most Ranger fans.

I could be wrong, but I think Boomer said in a reply to someone that it was not Buffalo.

St Louis has a NMC, but Brad Richards is his best friend

Ok, then I'm at a loss, St. Louis doesn't make much sense for me. If all the other players mentioned are out, it has to be someone we are not thinking about.
