Or maybe that's not what he's asking for?

And that's my point. There way more of those "Yay" fans, then there are here hashing this all out.

- OLDSCHOOL#6

yep, and those YAY fans are more loyal than anything else and will get over the trade of Callahan soon enough if it happens.

I was poking around the Lightning thread, somebody did bring up the point that some teams were given permission to talk to Callahan's agent. This whole trade scenario was brought at about that time, its possible that if you believe Boomer that maybe TB was the team and there has been traction in the talks?

Because, at times, the NHL does inexplicable things. If you are Steve Yzerman, it's just hard to imagine why you wouldn't have taken the easy way out and put St. Louis on the team. Most people thought he belonged on the team anyway. I mean, for god's sake, he was the Art Ross Trophy winner last year. And now, you created this problem for the organization that pays your salary, and for whom you are trying to win a Cup with. It's flat out incompetence if you ask me.

But here's the thing: Yes, it damages the relationship he has with that player but he can't ever use the idea of placating his guy as justification for picking a player for Team Canada. In that role he has the task of choosing the roster he honestly believes has the best chance to win a gold medal. Anything less is failure. Should he waver on that by taking his guy, potentially overruling the other GM's and evaluators on staff with Team Canada in order to avoid conflict with his player? If he can't make the tough decision when he feels it's merited he is in the wrong business. It doesn't even matter if there is a defensible argument that St. Louis belongs in the first place; if Yzerman and his staff did not think he should have been on the initial roster at the beginning he shouldn't allow his mind to be changed because he's afraid to hurt St. Louis' feelings.

Some Rangers fans are seriously retarded, like Jimbo said they are the same ones that held onto Avery and Drury, doing what's best for the organization is short sighted to them

That maybe true, but as NHL General Manager, your primary loyalties should be to your team. If the NHL is going to place its GMs in a position where there is a conflict of interest between their loyalties to their club, and the loyalties to the International team, then problems are going to be created. If the working relationship between St. Louis and the Lightning has been adversely effected by Yzerman's decision to leave him of the Team Canada roster twice, he has done a disservice to the team of which he is the GM.

So, in short here is what I am saying, I agree with your general point as theoretical matter, but as a practical matter, I think Yzerman has botched this thing big time.

You like to use the word dumb a lot. You can't govern the way people feel about a player, a team, it's what the feel. Many don't have the level of fan sophistication as many on this site.
- OLDSCHOOL#6

I agree with you but it's hard for some of us to fathom. To borrow a cliche, I believe on the name on the front and not the one on the back. I am a Rangers fan who happens to like players like McDonagh, Kreider, Zuccarello, Hank, etc. However, I have been around way too long for me to believe that we will keep all of my favorite players for the balance of their careers. Just since I have been following the team closely we have traded or allowed to leave as a FA every Ranger player I liked with the exceptions of Mike Richter and Jeff Bekeboom, who both retired due to injury. Messier. Leetch. Graves. Tikkanen. James Patrick. Amonte. Mike Ridley. That's life in the NHL and we as fans have to learn to deal with that probability. Anything else is simply unrealistic.

Let that be a warning to any other NHL GM's who undertake this position. I believe Yzerman felt he was doing the right thing in his role as Canada's GM and that is his job. However we now see what the implications of that decision was. Perhaps that causes other active GM's to shy away from taking on that role.

Final NHL charter out of Sochi, carrying Team CAN, has landed in Newark. They'll all be back in home NHL cities later today/tonite.

Thank God, Thursday cannot come fast enough.

just some of these things people are saying on facebook, like comparing this proposed trade to the likes of Middleton for Hodge or Ridley and Miller for Carpenter really is just that, it's retarded. That is the word.

Oldschool doesn't like the word dumb being thrown around, fine, we can go with that one

that's what I believe. I think if somehow the Rangers have Martin St. Louis by March 5th, that is a huge sign that Brad Richards is here to stay, unless he completely tanks it up the last two months.

I do wonder whether the Callahan think will get worked out sooner, rather than later.

Also, Girardi is still without a contract, so I wonder if the speculation begins to heat up on that front as well, the longer he remains without one. I'm still assuming that something gets done with Girardi, but we are few days away from the deadline, and still no deal.

Marc Staal's latest injury issues should make Dan Girardi's agent point out his amazing durability to Mr. Sather

Blueshirts united had some interviews with some of the players upon returning to practice.

Kreider spoke about how refreshed he felt. I think break couldnt have come at a better time for him. Obviously he was struggling leading up to the break, but i expect him to come out on fire when we resume playing again.
