As much as I would love him to hoist the cup here, I do have to wonder if the Flyers could get a 1st rounder for him, whether to trade him or not.
Timonen has by far been my favourite Flyer, since his arrival. I do want him back for another year if he can go again (at a discounted rate), but I want just as badly to see him lift a cup before his time is done. - flyer_nutter
I consider everything but I doubt he's moved unless it's at his request. |

An oiler blogger (not on hockeybuzz) proposed this:
2nd overall + klefbom + gagner for couturier + your 1st + coburn.
Thoughts?
Or even something like 2nd overall + gagner for couturier + simmonds/voracek - ystoil
With the draft in Philly, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Flyers try and grab Ekblad. Perfect time for a big move. Not a big fan of those trade ideas, and Coburn is almost untouchable at this point, nobody can step up to take those minutes away. |

Not to mention we'd lack the cap space.........I'd have to say no as well. |

Personally I don't think they have a shot at Ekblad. Don't get any hopes up for that happening. |

Replace Couts with B. Schenn and I would probably do it. |

Much respect from me.
Especially playing without their top centers.
Truly a team performance. - Marc D
Im a Finnish and Russian citizen so at least one of my teams did well. Even though Teemu is retiring the Finns have great prospects coming up through the works. Id be interested to see how they do at either the World Cup of Hockey or 2018 Olympics. |

True enough. I am one of those that believe it will be a few years, and hopefully some solid draft choices from being able to truly compete. Will also admit, I know next to nothing about this upcoming draft as of now. No time to pay attention, anyone close to Morrissey/Ristolainen level? |

Ya I think it would depend on how high Oilers/Philly brain trust rate Ekblad. If he's there at 2, I'd imagine Homer and Mact/Loweballs will have a convo

If you're a USA fan you got to hope that they go a different direction both in the front office & behind bench. Specifically, got to limit Brian Burke's involvement as well as Poile's. Looking back at the articles by Allen & Burnside, it's not hard to see why neither Burke or Poile have managed to build a Stanley Cup winner despite nearly 45 combined years of experience as GMs.
I know Burke won in 2007, but Bryan Murray did most of the heavy lifting.
Also, highly unimpressed by Bylsma. Guy has Crosby & Malkin on his roster & has won 3 playoff series since 2009. That's pretty poor performance |

D is not really a strong position for this upcoming draft but outside of Ekblad I do like:
Haydn Fleury - Red Deer (possible top 10)
Julius Honka - Swift Current (possible top 20 - 25)
Brycen Martin - Swift Current (mid to late 1st & partner to Honka)

Defensemen I would target for the Flyers would be:
Roland McKeown(Probably out of the Flyers Reach)
Hayden Fleury (Probably out of the Flyers Reach)
Julius Honka (Who I absolutely love)
Brycen Martin (Dont know much about)
This is a better draft for forwards. My pick for forwards would be Nikolaj Ehlers. That kid has done nothing but impress me since Ob told me to watch some of his games. |

Roland McKeown has fallen some (forgot to add him), was told by a scout recently "good 2-way game - not pure offensive guy,not punishing physical guy either, scouts have mixed views. Some higher than 17, some significantly lower than that. Needs a good second half to hold his spot in 1st round ( or in our case get him back in)" |

I probably say no, or I'd remove a piece like Klefbom from the deal. No slight against Schenn, but I'd be gunning for Couturier. |

No thank you, even with some decent games recently, still word I got was he's still not impressing many NHL scouts. You know I'm high on Nikolai Ehlers of Halifax |

Thats a fair comment. Couturier is the kind of player the Oilers really need. I wouldnt trade Couturier though. So no deal. |

How has his offense looked? I see his shooting percentage is a bit low, is he getting chances at least?
Nothing wrong with a 40-50 point defensive centre, it's what Edmonton desperately needs. Do you guys see him as a 65 point guy in the future? |

It really sucks for him & his comeback.........Might be time for him to seriously consider not playing again for the sake of his long term health |
