Garth snow almost has to keep the pick this year. If he doesn't he is telling everyone that he expects to suck 2 years in a row.

Which makes the "go for it " trade for vanek even dumber looking in hindsight

Calgary, Edmonton, and Florida will all pass the Isles in the standing.

It may come down to the last game of the year against Buffalo to decide the last spot in the standings.

Do you think Garth is still in charge come Draft Day???

Ofcourse, why wouldnt he be??

So I'm just checking on the Islanders policy with Season Ticket Holders.

Snow thinks that because Tavares was injured while playing at the Olympics, while under the "watch" of the IOC / IIHF, that the IOC / IIHF should reimburse their season ticket holders.

So if Tavares had been injured in an Islanders game, while under the "watch" of the NHL and the New York Islanders, that Charles Wang would now be signing cheques to reimburse his season ticket holders?

Of course he wouldn't. They would be saying how while unfortunate, this injury is part of the game.

What a joke of a statement and a GM.

- dal_johnson

I'm sure the insurance policy Team Canada has will pick up Tavares' salary for getting hurt...Snow is a clown and shouldn't be a GM...while I'll miss not seein Tavares, injuries are part of the game...

That's rough. He's so good.
Losing him, plus likely trading Vanek & possibly McDonald...
One good thing Snow did was made sure u guys could keep this pick if it was top10.
Prob looks to be top5 now
So at least you'll get another nice young player

Truth be told, if we have a top 5 pick, I think we should look for the most talented sniper we can find. We have defensemen coming and drafting one who won't be ready for 4 more years won't help. I'd rather we find a kid who might be able to join the team and score.
Outside of JT, Okposo, Nelson and Strome, we're severely lacking in offensive talent and since they aren't lining up to sign here as UFA"s, we may need to start considering adding another forward.

- keaner17

Hopefully u can get a decent prospect back in the Vanek trade
Toffoli would be nice if u deal with LA
Besides Ekblad, the other top prospects are all forwards, so u should be in good shape.
I'm pretty sure the Sabres will take Reinhart, and it seems obvious that EDM would grab Ekblad...
So you're prob looking at someone like Bennett, Draisaitl or Dal Colle...
All of which should suit u nicely
Personally, I really like Draisaitl...
Power forward type that can skate pretty well for a big guy

I think if we have a top 2 pick we use it.. Getting the Brothers Reinhart together cant be a bad thing or grabbing Ekblad as a future top pairing d-men is a no brainer. after those 2... some good players but I think the talent level dips & we pass on our pick to Buffalo.

Unfortunately to bad things night result of this
1) cappy doesn't get fired b/c now his reason for losing post Olympics is that he is missing his star player.
2) snow doesn't trade vanek b/c we need some skill on top line and he doesn't want to upset the season ticket holders with isles losing.

Sad but both are possible.

Vukota u hit nail in head same guy complaining about ko getting snuffed is now upset the jt got hurt.

Let's face it. Season was blown. I think the statement we out 10 points out and making playoff push upsets season ticket holders.

Staple-

#Isles GM Garth Snow spitting mad over Tavares' Olympic injury: "Are the IIHF or IOC going to reimburse our season ticket holders now?"

More Snow: "It's a joke. They want all the benefits from NHL players in Olympics and don't want to pay when our best player gets hurt."

Snow: "It wouldn't matter if we were 10 points up on a playoff spot or 10 points out. We lost our best player and he wasn't playing for us."

- NYI44

Maybe you can reimburse the season ticket holders for continuing to employ a coach who has no f***ing clue what he's doing....while we're at it.

1- This is pretty much the ONLY thing that REALLY bothers me about losing Tavares for the rest of the year.

2- He might think we're that stupid- let's hope not. I'd rather see Vanek traded for pretty much anything rather than nothing, to be here for what is now a guaranteed lock to be no reason.

While I'm not a Yankee fan, I always loved the passion George Steinbrenner had. He cared about winning before anything else. If Charles and Garth cared anout winning and did what it took to win, the statement would be fine. Now they look like empty suits.

I'll say it again- in this day and age, one of the big time problems with pro sport is that, unless you're Manchester United, or the New York Yankees, where the brand has license to print money, your owner has to be stupid wealthy, or else your team is run like the f***ing K-Mart. Our owner isn't poor, but he's better off owning the Sound-Tigers than the Islanders. We need that Russian guy in Brooklyn who probably sells heroin....I mean oil, sorry....to buy this team. Someone who doesn't even notice if he spends $100M a year, even if it costs him every bit of that $100M a year, because he's burning piles of cash in his fireplace when he runs out of wood. Those are the only people who can really afford to own pro sports teams nowadays. Everyone else is fooling himself- and lying to his fans.

PS- The NFL would be an exception to the above rule, for the most part, which is why the fact that the league doesn't pay any taxes is a scam, but I digress...

Have to love the way the Swedes and the Finns play- they're perfectly happy to beat you, 1-0, and they don't care. No one gets too excited. They just play hockey. That's what we need here, desperately.

Who really gives a shat if Snow says that? We all know hes going too but who cares. Any and every fan should know this team was out by December. If that is his reasoning it justifies him being fired even more. Proves hes completely incompetent along with every single person he hires. Prepare yourself for it bcs he will say it. The guy is a complete moron.

Wang is not personally poor, youre right. But he's not going to use his personal fortune or revenue from other businesses he has to fund the isles. That's bad business and exactly how people go broke: by taking profits from profitable ventures and dumping them into failing businesses.

Wang bought the team and i don't think he appreciated how difficult it was going to be to get the Lighthouse done. I'm sure Wang thought he'd buy the team, deal with he losses because of the poor attendance and bad lease for a few years, and it would all be worth it because he'd get the Lighthouse and make his money back. That never happened and without the prospect of the Lighthouse, Wang has no business incentive todump personal money into the Isles. Its hard to fault him for that, but it should tick everyone off that a NY sports franchise is run financially like one venued out in the sticks

1) if Cappy doesn't get fired (as ridiculous as that concept is) it won't be because of Tavares injury. It'll be because Snow thinks he's a good coach and not the reason this team takes months off during the year (which would cast serious doubt upon Snow's decision making ability and ability to evaluate his team)

2) he MUST trade Vanek. There is no choice. It would be gross mismanagement of the team for Snow to hold onto a player who turned down a 7 year, $50M+ contract when there are assets to be recouped by dealing him

This team should have a fire sale at this point. Vanek, A-Mac, Nabby, Vis, whoever can bring back assets. Even Grabs, Nielsen and Bailey should be in play, as with everyone else not named Tavares if they can bring back assets to improve the team. This is a lost season.

I agree ALMOST 100% with what you say. I'd venture a guess though that the Lighthouse project was not part of his original plan when he purchased the Isles. The previous owners had tried repeatedly to get deals renovating that property and were rejected, eventually giving up and cutting the budget. I think Wang felt that he could return the team to a success, make it profitable and then build around that. When it became more increasingly difficult to get SMG and the county to fund renovations, I think he felt that the Lighthouse proposal would be a win win for everyone as it would provide jobs, economy and a lifeline to the Isles. His offering to personally renovate the coli was evidence that he tried everything before killing the budget.

I dont know how many of you guys are yanks fans, but the more time passes with Snow amd Wang at the helm, the more I realize how great it was to have George Steinbrenner as The Boss. Forget about the spending. Steinbrenner would never accept this level of mediocrity and losing. He gave a s*it about money. That was all that mattered. These two show more emotion over the IOC not paying money to season ticket holders for JT's injury than they do over losing every year.

i think you missed the point...if he gets injured playng for the islanders, well that sucks but the injured at least occured while playing for the team thats paying him... he (and the Islanders) gets exactly $0 for playing in the olympics. whether you agree with the comments or not is one thing but there is truth to this point, in fact thats what the entire "NHL players or not" debate is about...
