It's a bad one if taken at face value, which you (along with others) did.

I had only made that comment as a response to a "we're going to be stuck with Snow forever". My response was a more of a "well we can always hope". But as typical, the responses come to responses found 4-5 comments later which completely distorts and perverts the original subject.

I am in no friggin' way saying any of them should be 'given' more time with the hope that they'll suddenly morph into better professionals. I merely stated that it's reasonable to assume that inexperienced coaches and GM's can get better with time. If one is to argue that the biggest problem with Snow as a GM hire was lack of experience, would it not be safe to assume he'd be a better candidate today than in 2007? Sheesh.

Honestly not sure? Can you honestly say he would be?

He has no GM experience but being VP of hockey operations probably brings a little more to the table then being the guy that was directly responsible for the NHL re writing the rule book on goalies shoulder pads.
- Cptmjl

Again, I'm not defending the hiring of Snow. Never did. All I was saying was, it wasn't quite as predestined for failure as some would have thought.

In the case of Stevie Y, I have no idea what his functions were as VP of operations, but I'm guessing he had very little interaction on contracts, trades, signings, personnel etc... That's not exactly a grooming position for a GM.

Was it more than what Garth had? Yep.

He's a smart guy, etc etc. I think he's shown signs that he can do the job,

When you have lines in your posts like these people are going to disagree. You can't say "I'm not a fan" and have 2 or three lines like these. You can but expect to get attacked

So you're saying Wang made the right decision hiring Snow back in 2007!

Yes. Am I saying he'd bee a good GM? no.
But it sort of refutes peoples arguement to say that Snow was a terrible choice of a GM because he had no experience as a GM, yet Garth Snow with 8 years of experience is no better of a candidate now..

Go back to the first 5 pages of this thread and find your answer I'll speak for everyone and say we are sick of explaining this.

OK - then another question... would you rather be a Sabres fan or an Islander fan?

It doesn't when he's showed little to no success. Obviously experience won't help all people. I work with people that have been doing what I do for 20 years and they suck and always will. That's exactly what Snow is.

Is that an option? Merge the teams and have them play in Binghamton?

Not around here you certainly can't. Not where absolutes rule. You must either be firmly against him 150% or else you are an outright supporter. That's what I find so silly around here and why the Swiss flag flies proudly!

I think Garth MIGHT be capable of being a fair GM. I don't know just 'how good' because I'm not sure how much of a hinderance Wang has been to his ability to build a team. I do think Garth is a smart guy. I think that he's made some very good draft picks and waiver wire picks therefore showing "SIGNS" that he can do the job. I've also seen signs he cannot. This time last year, YOU saw signs that he might be doing okay but needed more. Just another day in the volatile world of fans.

No, not really. These other guys got to learn under qualified people. Snow's been winging it for eight years with all of the qualified people in the league looking to take advantage of him, rather than train him. It doesn't help when they fire other hockey minds who have been around the block a bit and insist on entry-level coaches, etc.

I speak with some degree of experience. I was thrown into a sink or swim deal at my job many years ago, and had people telling me I was doing a good job and, not really knowing any better, figured that was the case. In another position later on, I got to work under someone with 25 years of experience, and now I look back almost embarrassed about how woefully unprepared I was for that previous position. Learning from people who know what they're doing is important.

We're not comparing whether he would have been better off under experienced guidance, that's a no brainer. I'm merely saying there are mistakes he made in year one, that he's likely learned from..therefore he's that much better than before.

Even for Crappy, there were likely things he did this year and last year that he will not do tomorrow. So while he'd still be sucktastic, he might be just a little less sucktastic.

I don't know...I see a lot of the same mistakes being made over and over. I'm not seeing improvement here. I think the later-round drafting has been decent...but that was just as true in 2008 as in 2011. But there are the same glaring holes in the same positions year in and year out, with the same baffling pointless offseason signings...really, other than a couple of sunny months here or there, each year's essentially been a template for the following one. What are you seeing that I'm not?
