Bill Belichek was on the tutoring of Bill Parcells. I mean come on now. Who did Jack learn from. NO ONE. who did Snow learn from to be a GM NO ONE. These guys are here cause they are cheap and will say and do whatever Wang wants. Wang is losing money so he saves money by putting crap in charge. That is why this team is horrendous - kasperrko
Bill Belichek then went on to coach Cleveland and SUCKED. I'm not comparing the two, merely saying that even the best of coaches had to learn on the job.
I don't expect Cappy to be a good coach, and certainly don't think he'll be a good one for us. I do think, since he isn't going anywhere, that Snow can improve as a GM. |

Keaner...Belichick won 2 Championships as a Defensive Coordinator before he was a coach. Garth Snow hadn't even coached a pee-wee team. That like comparing oranges and filet mignon. |

Well, it's tough to argue the hopless negativity. I would say that opinions about Charles were a good bit differently prior the the 2007 shakeup. He was seen as a bit of a loon but not as a penny pincher. Much of that was brought on with the realization that this team simply wouldn't be profitable until they moved. $16-23 million in annual losses over a decade will do that to you. For that reason, I do think it will change because it's in his best financial interest to make the team profitable once they're in Barclays. Charles WANTS to make money.
Most of the Isles players like Charles, not a little but a lot. I still believe that even if there is a stigma about playing for him, the introduction of a new stadium and an up and coming team will open the gates a bit for UFA's - keaner17
Not with the stooges in charge. The UFAS are not coming here cause this is a losing franchise for years. Had nothing to do with the building or anything else |

People could not stand this guy when he was playing. He was a mediocre player at best and to be honest a goaltender really?? I mean what other GM in the league is a goaltender?? Common sense is all it takes to make a team successful this team has none - kasperrko
really? |

You're not getting my little rant here...it's not about money, it's about one man's (Wang's) pride, stubbornness and arrogance. He's a grown ass man, he's not changing. |

I'd also argue that people who are still making entry-level mistakes seven and a half years into a job maybe are just not cut out for that job. That's about as long as I've been at my company, and I'm considered a grizzled vet here. - UIF
If they learned anything, there would have been some response to the team going into the tank in November. This team constantly starts off lousy and the same lousy UFA's are signed so they have learned nothing. |

Gotta say, so far Kessel is the only forward that looks like he can hang with Canada. |

Again, I'm not comparing the two. Merely using him as an example of a coach who learned to coach better.
There's a laundry list of coaches over time who failed during their first couple of stints, then went on to greater success later on. It's not about the names being compared but simply to provide examples that even coaches and GM's learn from the mistakes and ultimately become better.
I the case of a GM, I'm willing to bet that Yzerman is a better GM today than he was last year. He's learned a few things about the job, therefore may have changed his approach. That's all I'm saying. EVERYONE is always learning, the question is can they EVOLVE |

Who hires a guy who's never so much as coached his kid's pee-wee team to RUN HIS FRANCHISE?
Seriously, I agree with you like 98% of the time, just drop this bullpoop argument.
Re-inventing the wheel? Why? Because he HAS to be right. He HAS to do things HIS way. It ain't changing. |

People can poop on Neil Smith as much as they want or throw the he doesn't have another GMing job out there, but the fact is, he's been our best GM this century. |

Ken Dryden was...
Ron Hextall
Eddie Johnston (he built the Lemieux Stantley Cup teams)
Why I'm I even doing this...plenty of goaltenders have been GM's. |

Amazing how THIS evolves around here.
I'm not defending Garth. I'm not saying he should stay. I'm not even saying he's been good. Hell, I said I thought he should get the hook at the end of the season. All I'm saying is, even guys who suck at what they do should theoretically get better over time based on experience alone.
Of course being the one person here who didn't ask that he be drawn and quartered apparently means I want him extended

So based on Smith's cup of coffee and less than stellar draft, acquisition of Witt, Sillinger and Andy Hilbert.....uh huh. |

He wouldn't tolerate another man doing his job.
Snow drafts, and has been decent at that, and that's it. Our best player was a no-brainer 1st overall pick, our 2nd best player was drafted by a guy who was here 2 weeks. |

Could not agree more. He had the respect of agents and players and signed some quality players in 40 days on the job. He grew up under Bill and Al. He was the perfect guy to help turn things around for the Isles. |

Not true. Yzerman didn't step from the ice to the GM spot. He held some management positions with Detroit and with Team Canada before going to Tampa Bay. |
