I don't see why PHI would do that now. Maybe in the summer, but at this point it makes them worse to close out the year.

If that happens, I can see an exodus of Europeans from the NHL (if only for that Olympic season). That having been said, if they really do end up forming those summer World Championship tournaments as a substitute, I can't see it being a problem.

Doubtful that there is an exodus, they tried that once already with the KHL and it didn't work. You might see guys like Jagr or Selanne leave the NHL for that last shot, but you aren't going to lose those 25 year old superstar euros unless they are homesick. That and how much does the Olympics really mean when the best in the world aren't there? It would be like Canada winning the world cup of soccer when all the good countries decided to boycott.

And yes the World cup of hockey is suppose to be back soon.

If there's ever a team who'd do such a deal, it's Philly. Without checking their cap situation, we may have to take some salary off them, but I'd say it's pretty close in value. We bolster our top-4 D, get a needed and different dimension at 2C, and a chance to still pick a solid player. They get one elite D prospect, an almost NHL-ready D prospect, and a fairly young and skilled- albeit expensive- 2/3C depending upon how Vinny ages.

If Ekblad is there I don't see why we would do it though. I don't see Coburn as elite and neither is Couturier. Very good players, but Ekblad is going to be a guy you build around.
