It's kind of getting pathetic how bad he is offensively...thankfully McCarron is even pooptier. - AdamFrench
I used to think first round picks were like gold bricks. Unless those picks are top 10 (Kadri, Rielly), Im all meh about it now.
After seeing the Leafs select Biggs, Gauthier....we might as well trade the pick for an NHL useful player.. |

It wasnt, I was originally backing you up as I think Bix said Mandarin wasnt top 3. Thing is, there are a TON of people in Canada alone who speak Mandarin. You'd be surprised. |

In comparison, the ratio of native english speakers to worldwide speakers is far greater than spanish and mandarin...so theres that. |

i remember making the argument around here that even top ten is not a guaranteed top flight player... and having the HB posters tear me a new one for suggesting it.
maybe top 3 are guaranteed and even then....no.
for the most part first round picks turn out to be mid lineup NHLers if they even make it altogether. |

They just have to make better picks...... who know if those guys work out, still time but not lookin good.
EDIT: with those guys (Biggs, Guathier, ect) it looks like they didn't try to take the best guy, or one with most skill, but rather a guy that supposedly does one thing really well and they felt that that could get them to the NHL if it was further developed and nurtured ect, and that hopefully some other skills also develop at bit.

Its just simple odds right...calculate the rate of success of each round and the first round is simply much greater than any other. Never a guarantee, as 7th rounders can be stars...but thats the exception, not the rule. |

i just think too many people equate first rounders with future top line or top pairing guys
its not the case at all for the most part |
