I know. But what the hell. Calgary makes the playoffs before the Oilers do at this point.
- therealagent

We'll see, but I doubt it. I wouldn't put it past them, though. Our upper management group is likely to only one that could achieve such monumental failure.

Really? Hmm. I see him pairing better with Petry on a makeshift top pairing. I wouldn't be opposed to trying him with Schultz, but I think that leaves us putting too much stock in Marincin maintaining his high level of play into next season. I also feel that Schultz pairs better with a real stay-at-home guy. That having been said, I guess we've never gotten to see how he plays with another offensively skilled puck mover either and maybe pairing him with one will bare similar results to what we've seen with Petry and Marincin.

I just want to keep Marincin-Petry together

I think J Schultz just needs a top 4 quality D partner, whether that be a Methot type or a Brian Campbell type

I'm laughing at the fact that Burke managing EDM magically makes them a playoff team. Like MacT is doing such a bang up job that Burke would be EDM's knight in shining armour.

Also, I realize Burke's track record, but I don't like where his values lie in building a team. Grit and truculence should be an added benefit not a main priority.

Yes, believe it or not. The stats don't lie. The player interviews don't lie.

I give up. Go ahead and keep all the young talent thinking you only need defense. You need defense yes. You also need forwards to take the pressure off the kids who are expected to score once playoff time starts.

Should have hired Burke. You would have been a playoff team this year.

- therealagent

The problem with your deal is that trading our future #1 C / picks for a former #1 C and our new 3rd line LW is the most retarded thing we could do. Sedins are not physical at all and that would be the only reason we would mess around with the forward group. We need to fill the defensive hole we have instead of wasting assets on washed up Europeans who disappear when there team needs them.

No. But only because of a technicality. Henrik was spelled incorrectly.

Try Daniel and Henrik

for

2 1sts, Nuge, Hemsky

Edmonton makes the playoffs for the next 4 years guaranteed and for 10 years after the twins retire. Young talent like Hall, Yak, Eberle, Nurse, etc., stay and learn what it takes to be a pro. Canucks rebuild with the picks and have Kes/Nuge/Horvat/Gaunce as their top 4 centers.

done and done.

- therealagent

so we give up our 20 year old 1 center, another top 5 pick and another first for 2 guys towards the end of their primes??
how does this jive with our rebuild?

we dont get much bigger, that much better defensively, much more physical, plus we shorten our window adding to the guys we do have....

jesus

we can move those picks for far more pressing needs while not gutting us of our 1 center, or assets used fro dmen, nor taking on two aging stars..

just terrible

No kidding. "Well, if you don't wanna trade your 20 year old 1C and 2 high firsts for 2 33YOs soon to be on the decline of their career then you won't trade anybody! And you'll be at the bottom forever!"

It sounds like everybody from Winnipeg is available. If Ladd and Byfuglien were on the table I'd absolutely send Eberle+J Schultz++ or whoever their way.

- TheNugeIsHuge

I have tons of time for Ladd, Byfuglien (and Kane.)

Hyopthetically if we made a blockbuster that brings those guys in and somehow keep Nuge and Hall, we'll make the playoff next year for sure.

Klefbom, eventually.

If Marincin falters next year, I'd love to try him out with Ference only because I've been waiting for months to consistently use the "Ferincin" moniker for their pairing

This would be great for jumpstarting Vancouvers rebuild and helping completely restart Edmontons.

if this really is the general consensus for oppositions fans thoughts on our rebuild(which im truly starting to believe) then we should just shut down the oilers thread to any outsiders.

fukin ludicrous

Like I said, Sedins are offense in a box. Instant scoring prowess for any team that doesn't have that....but the Oilers have that, and pretty much only that.

Which is why the Nucks should shop the Sedins to Phoenix, Nashville, Jersey, etc...

Or what about Washington? pretty one-dimensional outside of Ovi, and they're ready to move on from two pieces that could be of interest to Vancouver: Green and Erat.

Many places to sell the Sedins other than a divisional rival where the fit isn't there. And the kicker is that the impression there was that we were desperate to add the Sedins as opposed to them desperate to sell. If Gillis was charging MacT essentially double for Schneider, do you really think MacT is going to give him two 1sts + Nuge for the Sedins?

Okay. Serious question for Oiler fans then. What in the world do you think is going to happen if you keep getting top 5 picks? Your talent is not turning into a Crosby/Malkin/Fleury/Letang for one simple reason. The supporting cast is not Lemieux, Malone, Palffy, Gonchar, Recchi, Leclair, Roberts, etc..

I could do the same thing with Chicago and Anaheim who surrounded young stars with veterans. Edmonton doesn't have the luxury of having FAs knocking down their door. If you don't make a trade to bring in vets who can take the pressure off, you'll turn into the Panthers or Islanders real quick.

I just don't understand why people don't understand this. Henrik and Daniel, at 15-16 mins a game, are 70pt players easily. The pressure they'd take off young stars can't be underestimated. I hate them both and neither produced BUT Messier was responsible for getting Naslund to the next level and Sundin for getting Sedins/Kesler to the next level.

It's the price you need to pay. It doesn't have to be the twins but that's the type of deal you must make.

if you think the Sedins are going to fix our problems, with us trading back Nuge Ekblad/Bennet, another 1st and Hemsky to acquire them, then you really have no (frank)ing clue what you're talking about.

If it's Wayne's then yes. You could put it in an incubator then 18 years from now the Oilers would finally have that missing piece.

Seriously guys. It's time to do something bold like Burke would do and that means making an unpopular move that usually ends up working.

Mac T's "bold" moves are only seen in his emails to Kevin. I feel sorry for Oiler fans.
