Russia has the puck possession thing down but that's not going to be enough.
- Briere

I mean what was the Malkin thing? I'm assuming he dove, but what was the play?

Jokinen knocked him down and may have grazed his face with a stick lightly. Malkin went down like he had just taken a full swing to the face. He laid on the ice and held his face for a good 10-15 seconds without moving.

He ran into a Finn at the blue line. No big deal. Went down like he was shot. Stayed down, realized he wasn't getting a call, and jumped back into the play. Kind of embarrassing actually.

bob keeps them in the game twice now.

The Finns look like they're playing a world cup soccer match with a one goal lead. They look content to let Russia possess the puck but keep them outside and away from the net

- Briere

They're not even possessing the puck in the offensive zone though. They are incapable of a dump and chase. Finland just keeps standing them up at the line.

Their will has been killed.

I picked Finland as a big underdog for this series and said that thier success or lack there of hinged on their defense and goaltending.

You nailed it.

Great win but HUGE disappointment for Russia. In their own country no less.

Are those whistles boos?

They played a very strong game. Rask was good, defense was good and their few skilled players (Selanne and Granland) made plays.

Selanne and Timonen are hugging and smiling together. Its their last rodeo, but they have a shot at a medal now.

Getting booed at the Olympics is about as bad as it gets.

Are you predicting a loss for Canada as well? Because I would be more impressed by that prediction.

Russia isn't even a factor in these tournaments anymore. Honestly, I think it's kind of sad

Know what? With their injuries and relatively unconvincing wins (excepting Slovenia), I don't know if Sweden can beat them. As much as I don't want Canada to win, how great would it be to have the 2 semifinals be US-Canada and Finland-Sweden?

Since the end of the Soviet Union, Russia has 1 bronze and 1 silver. No golds and no medals in the last 3 Olympics.

I wouldn't say predicting, in fact (per my post) an all-NA and an all-Scandinavian (sorta) semifinal round would be cool. But another part of me really wants a 2002-esque upset (Belarus over Sweden) for Canada.

I know. Good rivalries. I would like Finland a lot more if they had Filpulla, Barkov and the Koivus. As it stands, they have very little offense. If Selanne and Granlund are shut down, there aren't many others who can pot a goal.

He was his usual self though. Took bad penalties, made selfish plays and displayed a ton of talent and skill.

He was one of the few Russians who consistently got chances. He also battled pretty hard for pucks throughout the tournament.

NBC Sports analysts glowing over the Russian loss and happily criticizing them.

Have you never heard of Juhamatti Aaltonen before?
Or, more likely, Olli Maata?

Russia should have started Bob. Could have been a totally different game.
