Over the past five years there hasnt been a team worse at drafting than the Pens, They got lucky and handed Crosby to them, and sucked when Malkin was available.

as fun as it is to riducule this guy, that's just not true. the pens have made some really solid picks the last few years.

what you fail to realize is if he wasnt cheering for the team, they would have never won those cups. Clearly you are an idiot for not coming to this conclusion and have a blatant ignorance towards hockey.

No, bandwagon fans reside in different states than the team they actually root for. I'm actually from Pittsburgh and currently reside here. That makes me a bandwagon fan? Get at me when the Caps finally get one (which means we probably won't be talking again anytime soon)

come on guys, no sense in having a battle of wits with an opponent who's clearly unarmed.

over the last five drafts i believe all they have to show for it is bennett and maatta.

edit: sorry they also have Simon Despres, 3 players over the last five years cracking the lineup is horrible, and you can go back a year further, cause no one is on from that draft class either.

Marc-Andre Fleury is mediocre at best, so that had nothing to do with it.

Look at all the good players the Pens dug up around Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Fleury by drafting/trading, who have gotten better or were otherwise acquired during cup runs for assets the Pens had through good drafting:

Hossa
Guerin
Letang
Neal
Kunitz
Dupuis
Kennedy
Cooke
Iginla
Bennett
Jokinen
Martin
Scuderi
Niskanen
Maata
Despres

...and he moved Staal for a player who could excel at the same role at less cost in Sutter, plus some good prospects.

Most teams would take all of those guys listed on their teams somewhere, try and do the same for Oilers acquisitions over the last 7 years. Not even close.

And that's the real difference. Put Crosby and Malkin on that Oiler team and take away Hall and Nuge, and they're still no more than a fringe playoff team.

Tired of this argument. The timelines are no where near the same. And why does everyone think one rebuild should go exactly like another. We'll revisit this in 3-4 years and see what things look like.

Seriously ? You don't know anyone in Pittsburgh who didn't realize that the Pirates existed until last year and suddenly they had to have a playoff ticket ?

pouliot, harrington, and despres are solid. considering where they've finished in teh standings, that's pretty good draft results.

Hockey worth? Let's see I've been alive for and witnessed each of my Teams 3 Stanley Cups. I've kissed the Stanley Cup, I've met Mario Lemieux and he signed my back of my jersey for me. What else could a hockey fan possibly want to accomplish?
- Killian

What correlation does that have to your hockey expertise, especially when you just said that cheering for the hometown team is a necessity to avoid being a bandwagoner, meaning you didn't exactly expertly 'choose' a team, for example.

Oh, so now you want to talk about Baseball. No...we CAN'T go there with you Cap, because there's no crying in baseball. See in hockey, you can cry plenty when we send you packing at home in game 7...but there's no crying in baseball.

yea i edited mine with Simon Despres, however that is only 3 three players from the past 6 draft classes to make their roster. I do not think a team has done worst than that over the six year period.

i'm not even gonna bother trying, but i'm sure there are worse........for example, calgary.

they are, WITHOUT DOUBT, the worst drafting team in teh last 5 years. the leafs probably have less also, but they also traded away picks for kessel. i think the rangers probably have less...........i'm sure there are more, that's just off the top of my head.

It's a misleading stat. Good teams aren't going to have a ton of recent draft picks. It's a sign of actually being good. Better to send them back to junior and develop. A concept that's foreign to Buffalo.

debateable.......i think the high draft picks the pens had were simply better at turning average players into real good players.

they also drafted a goalie, which is the biggest difference.

- sensarmy_11

dont forget they also traded up in that draft to get A goalie as well

NJ has been horrible at drafting in the first outside of Larsson who fell right into their laps and they won the lottery that year. 2nd and 3rd round has been where they have hit their home runs lately.
