I wonder if there's an update on Bolland out there and is he ready to play? When do they start their mini camp? Doesn't the NHL resume on the Tuesday after the Olympics? Carolina/Buffalo? A cancelled game?

Haven't heard anything but shouldn't be long now.

Well nothing official with when he will return but I have seen him around in London...He is training with the London Knights right now......

Fellow Londoner?

I haven't been fortunate enough to see him around. My son loves him. Took him bowling last week with the Knights and my son tells Josh Anderson "You'll be a good hockey player, but nothing like Bolland, cuz he's good"

I was so embarassed.

Yup London Ontario is my home town...To bad today is probably the last day for our backyard rink...And that is so funny...I remember I would always take my son to the Western Fair to watch the Knights practice and he would always collect all the pucks that went over the glass and at the end gave them to Brankley (the trainer) and one time Sergei Kostitsyn tapped my son with his stick trying to be nice and my son threw a puck at him...Sergei just laughed though...

My nephew when he was a little kid once met Sittler & said in front of him that Marcel Dioone is better. Kids say the craziest things

It's only supposed to be in the 2-3 degree range for the highs this week. the lows are still -5-6..and beck to highs of (-) next week..Or is your rink not built to withstand a bit of melt?

I try every year, and end up ruining it. My back yard is too unlevel for one. I even bought the rink in a bag this year, but my dog stepped on it the next day and punctured it....

Just hope it gets colder...And honestly all I do is pick the area I want, flatten the snow by stepping on it, and things like that till it is flat, and it has to be really flat, then i flood it with the hose every night...The layers build up and it works pretty good, its what I do every year.

Crazy dogs Anyways, wanted to see if u remember. The last Leaf game vs the Nucks, do u remember what one of Nuck troll said? He had the gall to call Iron Maiden a one hit wonder from the 70's. I told him u got your decade wrong buddy. I also straightened him that Maiden WAS NOT a one hit wonder. All Maiden songs are great. If your were downloading your own CD with 18 Maiden songs, one would have ZERO problem finding more than enough Maiden classic hits. The Nuck fans have lost their freakin minds.

I have done it for 20 years...Got this for some backyardrink.com...I think that's what its called...
Mow your law before your first snowfall but after several frosts so the grass is reasonably short (perhaps shorter than your usual summer mowing).
If there are several days of cold weather in the forecast (below freezing), it is a good time to consider construction of the backyard ice rink. Remember that if these days are unseasonably cold wait. The worst scenario is to start building the rink and have it melt due to warm weather.
The more level your yard the better so pick the most flar area for your backyard ice rink site. Use a lawn sprinkler to saturate the entire rink or make slush section by section smoothing as you go. The object here is to not have enough water it melts your snow and create slush everywhere. This is the foundation for your non liner back yard rink. If after you wish to admire your budding creation from inside a sprinkler has been used. Keep your eye on it. (move the sprinkler if necessary). The colder the weather the better, this will cause the water to freeze soon after hitting the ground. After the water soaks into the ground let it freeze and re sprinkle. This process will need to be repeated many times.
Use pooling water or slush / snow to fill any low areas of your backyard ice rink with a flat backed shovel to smooth off the top. The slush / snow patches may need to be left to freeze, then repeat the sprinkler process afterwards.
Use cold water to spray a heavy second layer of water to form a solid second layer.
Continue with a fine to medium spray for several nights.
If there is snowfall during this time, utilize it by shovelling the snow to the sides of the rink making 6" banks. Afterwards spray the banks with a fine mist (these banks will contain water for following floods, but will not be too high for children to hurt themselves.
Slush is still to be used to fill any low areas.
If you are building your backyard ice rink after snow has fallen, it is not necessary to remove the snow (unless there is more than 3"). Utilize the snow by misting a medium spray from the hose. Saturate the snow to a point of slush but do not over saturate, as the snow will run away in a melted mess. Allow to freeze and medium spray again repeat #4.
If by chance the weather warms during the process the whole entire procedure may have to be repeated (this is why the new backyard ice rinks with liner and boards is favoured).
If it snows lightly while building the base, the snow helps make the base thicker. However, building the base during a snowstorm is not advisable.
As of now your backyard ice rink building adventure is coming to fruition. You will soon be able to use warm/hot water to achieve a nice finish, making the rink super smooth. This is done by using warm/hot water on the backyard ice rink surface. This causes all the uneven bumps and high areas to melt, at the same time filling gaps and holes and giving the outdoor rink an even finish. The best concept is to use a flooder as per their instructions, drag it across the surface of the rink evenly and smoothly.
