Top 6 winger don't get benched often....unlike PAP
- Symba007

Wasnt benched for bad play, Roy doesnt change his roster after wins, and just coming off a knee injury and having to play a 3rd game in 4 days, he wasnt going to draw in.

Since Tanguay got banged up and is resting, PAP is back in the lineup he has produced

Personally I hope Parenteau gets moved. I'm in 5 fantasy hockey leagues that I administer. I have Parenteau in 2 of them & Barrie in all of them. If Parenteau moves, that moves Barrie up from the #2 PP unit with Benoit to the #1 unit with Johnson hopefully & Parenteau gets better quality minutes else where, a double bonus that helps all 5 of my teams.

We only have 1 week left in our leagues regular season after the Olympics are over until we start our 6 week playoff run so, that would be a nice boost for the Bounty Hunters.

I'm giving 3-1 odds that COL/MTL do not make a deal involving Parenteau before the deadline. Any interest?

flaw in that is once Tanguay is back again, he takes PAPs spot on the number 1 PP on the point

I can guaranteed they will not make a deal either, they are not good trade partners, no matter how hard Montreal tries to trade with us

Most teams dont have Duchene AND MacKinnon AND Gabe AND RoR and would you like me to keep going. He isn't on the preds or something, the Avs offense is deep as hell.

He was just returning from an injury that was supposed to have kept him out 2 weeks longer.

Apparently it does. Just ask Penner, Silverberg, Yakupov, Bickell, Bertuzzi, Brunner, Zabanejad, Booth, Erat, etc. Most teams dress them & curtail their minutes when things aren't going well but Roy beats to his own drummer. With Tanguay gone I will be surprised if they move Parenteau unless Colorado is getting something that helps today & Briere certainly doesn't, nor does a pick.

I don't hold out much hope that Tanguay can stay healthy. If he doesn't go under the knife soon, he will in the off season. His body is compensating for his knee issue as you know & is causing a serious hip issue. Simply can't take the NHL grind currently. Even 3 months of rest didn't help.

I thought during the trade freeze, no deal of any kind can be made nor that GM's could discuss one even in principle? Is that not correct? I thought a freeze meant a freeze on everything including GM's talking even in a mythical sense.

I think every one of the players you mentioned is either a very young guy going through growing pains or a 3rd liner.

Nice list though.

All are or were top 6 forwards but have been in & out of tge line up & bumped down the roster by someone else.

Some teams even run 3 scoring lines relying on pairs & the 2nd winger isn't really a scoring winger. LA is a good example. King has played most of the year as Kopitar's LW. Belesky in Anaheim has logged a ton of games with Getzlaf & Perry. Dwyer in Carolina, foligno in Columbus.I could go on & on.

The problem with Parenteau is that if he's not on a scoring line he's not really a checker.

bumped down the lineup because they are no longer top 6 wingers. hence, third liners.

unless bertuzzi is still the top power forward in the game going through a roug patch......

Right up until Datsyuk got injured Bertuzzi manned his wing.

Erat's bumped all over Washington's line up & been scratched numerious times. For the last month he's been playing LW with Backstrom & Ovechkin.

My argument now is that in todays game it's not so cut & dry, as top 6. In the old days teams barely played 4th liners. Today numerious teams roll 4 lines, particularly teams like NJ, StL & Nas. The difference between their 1st & 3rd lines is hard to distinguish in some cases.

Here is StL top 3 lines at the break.

Steen, Backes, Stewart.
Schwartz, Roy, Tarasenko.
Paarjarvi, Beglund, Oshie.

Does that make Oshie a 3rd liner?

Bonino has been centering the 4th line in Anaheim behind Getzlaf, Koivu & Perreault but mans the point with Fowler on the #1 PP & is scoring regardless, both at even strength & on the PP. Does that make him a 4th liner?

McKinnon has played RW as injuries dictate but when everyone's healthy plays as the #3 C & gets 2nd line PP time.

Just isn't that simple any more.

Zubrus plays LW with Zajac & Jagr. Does that make him a #1 LW? I could go on all day team by team picking out examples.

I think in todays game we determine what a player is by quantity & quality of minutes regardless of where he may play at even strength. When talking offensive players that means top 6 PP minutes for forwards for defensive players EV strength & short handed icetime as well as the use of advanced stats.

Parenteau is 6th for forwards in Col for TOI/G & 4th for forwards for PP TOI/G. Although as stated earlier most of that has been maning the point on the #1 unit when Tanguay's been injured. Which has been a ton.

To me that makes him a top 6 forward making reasonable money, $4 mil a season for 2+ more seasons for a player with a good track record of putting up points. If Montreal can lure him out of Colorado for Briere & a pick good for them. He'll score in Montreal to.

Surley a top 6 point producing winger signed for 2+ seasons at 4 mil per has to be worth a late 1st round pick.

I consider Montreal a rebuilding team, though Habs fans will deny it..If they had a Smart GM, (and they don't) they could use Detroit's injury situation (Zetterberg herniated disc) Datsyuk questionalbe , and try to Pry center Anthony Mantha away from Detroit..Ship a Lars Eller and first rounder Mike McCarron..Or if they want a veteran who could be a good fit with the Wings, add Brian Gionta for some veteran help.. I was surprised last June, and with FIVE picks in the second and third rounds in last year's draft, the Habs didnt try to move up enough spots when Mantha slipped down..Isnt Montreal the team that has been trying to add a Topline Center the last two decades?? Then again, you need a competant GM and scouting director.
