The Flyers dumping Sharp for a guy who only played 7 more games in the NHL was the worst trade they've made in the 20+ years I've been a fan. Sharp clearly had potential at center and at wing, but Hitchcock couldn't see it. And he was fired less than a year after running Sharp out of town.
The very next season Sharp was a top 6 player in Chicago while the Flyers were the worst team in the league, reduced to playing playing forwards like Dimitri Afanasenkov, Stefan Ruzicka and Ben Eager.

Ellison only played 2 games that season, the least of any forward on the team. |

Yeah, that "quick chemistry" stuff was really overplayed. They took Perry and Getzlaf, but both of them were deserving to go on their own merits. Kuntiz is there because of his level of production with Crosby.
Without Crosby, Kunitz is still a good, solid NHLer. But he'd never be under consideration for the Olympics otherwise. - Jsaquella
It still doesn't make sense, because if I'm not mistaken, Marleau and Thornton are one of the top 5 scoring duos in the league this year, along with Crosby and Kunitz. |

I still don't understand why they got rid of Markov so fast, he was a beast in the 04 playoffs. - BiggE
that was my first time watching/learning to love the flyers and i liked markov a lot, seems like he was a favorite on this board in general |

I jumped out of my seat when he scored that goal against Brodeur to clinch the series. I loathed the Devils so much back then. |

Williams is a damned good player. Markov was a great addition for the short time he was a Flyer, but they dumped him soon after the lockout, for whatever reason.
The Kings really needed a guy like Richards. It's hard to argue with the results. The Flyers were far more hurt by losing Pronger and the mediocre team defensive play & uneven goaltending of Bryzgalov than trading either Carter or Richards, though. - Jsaquella
Its a shame what happened to Pronger. I think the Flyers got a much better return for Carter than Columbus did. Jack Johnson and a 1st all day long.
I find myself watching a fair number of Flyers games because i still love Simmer... It made me realize how good Giroux really is and I was shocked he wasnt on team Canada. |

Yep, Giroux should have been on that team. 2nd Leading Canadian born scorer since the 2010 games, behind St Louis |

I dont think you can say carter doesnt score clutch goals. See game 2 overtime SCF vs NJ. See WCF hat trick vs Phoenix. He was our best forward against the Hawks last year in WCF with Richards hurt and brown and kopitar doing nothing in that series. - QuicksEnnormous
Brown and Kopitar couldn't have been 100% the way they played.

If Kunitz wasn't having an outstanding year playing with Crosby, I agree, he wouldn't have made the team. But with it being a short tournament, and how they have played together this year, it was a no brainer in my opinion to choose Kunitz.

I would of chosen Giroux over Duchene personally. Because if one of Crosby, Toews, or Getzlaff get's injured. Giroux is a great choice to step in and center a line. But I think they wanted Duchene for his explosive speed on the big ice. |

Personally Im glad he didnt go. And I am also taking heart that none of the players we did send will (most likely) be advancing all the way. (Maybe Finland plays for a Bronze). The rest will be home early and hopefully not injured.

I didn't mind Waffles so much. Hopefully it'll increase his confidence. And I didn't mind Metz for the same reason - he'll get the playing time he desperately needs and maybe get out of the funk he's been in recently. I was fine with Streit attending. Perhaps as a leader in the Swiss locker room, he can bring back some of that mindset with him.
I wouldn't have been upset if Jake and Timo had stayed behind with G. Especially Timo. He doesn't need the extra ice time as the run for the PO's begin. |

Yea, I'm being selfish there also. I just want everyone back healthy, maybe get a little bit of rest. And be ready to go down the stretch.

I disagreed with a lot of the team Canada selections.
Both Giroux and St Louis would have made my team over some of the names chosen for the initial team, especially Nash, Kunitz and Marleau.
While they will likely still medal and strongly contend for the gold, there's no way I'd take Kunitz over both St Louis and Giroux, from a talent and situational standpoint.
I get the whole, "He has chemistry with Crosby" stuff, but most players see their PPG go up playing with Crosby. It's not that Kunitz is a bad player or that he's Warren Young 2.0, it's that he's a 2nd line talent away from Crosby and the Canadian team passed up better players, who could easily do well with Crosby.
I think St Louis and Carter flanking Crosby would be a fantastic line for Canada, but they're stuck playing Kunitz with Crosby. - Jsaquella
this is the smartest anti-kunitz on the team post i have seen yet. no problems with this rationale whatsoever |

I think that any two Team Canada forwards flanking Crosby would make a great line. |

I think he's a good player, who has his point totals boosted by playing with Crosby. If a good player can be boosted by Crosby, imagine what a guy who is a top scorer in his own right could do with him.
It's not especially anti-Kunitz, as much as it is getting the most talented team on the ice.

I hope Canada loses, so I'm good with them taking Crosby's boyfriend. |
