I get zero tolerance for the net being off... but that's a freaking huge loophole if the defending team can basically covertly knock it off with impunity. - Tomahawk
Not crazy about that rule.

It must hurt Devils fans to see him play like that.. - funmaster18
Flyers should play that Kovy flip on the jumbo repeatedly during the first round of the upcoming draft |

I think they need to generate a lot more offensive chances going forward if they hope to win Gold. - MJL
Hard to gauge based on the competition so far. A stomping against a lesser team and a dogfight against an equal opponent. I think the talent is there. They just have to put it all together. |

I didn't catch the first Rad penalty, but the second one wasn't bad/dumb, right? Stick in the hands, back checking hard. - Tomahawk
I thought the second call on Radulov was very weak. As well as that one call against USA, where the Russian player basically tripped over Brown, while Brown had his back to the player. Incidental contact.

I don't mind shootouts, but allowing the same player to shoot over and over again is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. |

For sure. I imagine the IIHF will take another look at the rule once the Olympics are over. |

Weak but I think you out your stick there you open yourself up to weak calls. Ticky tack but after the call against USA before that, I would have been more careful. USA PP was clicking too. |

IMO if they can wave off a goal for net being knocked off via review, they should be able to review whom knocked it off, and either reward a PP or penalty shot if the defending team does it on their own. |

Agreed. If the net was off causing the goal to be disallowed , I think they should have to review the play and see who knocked it off and if it was intentional. If the defending team knocked it off intentionally, then the goal either counts or the defending team is penalized. If the shooting team knocked it off , goal is waived off and face off comes outside. |

Good points. If he doesn't put his stick there, there is no call. But it just seems that anytime there is a stick at waist level it get's called. Even if it really had no effect on the play. I hate that.

I think it's a fairness thing. Team with only 1 good player aren't penalized for making it to the shootout against superiorly talented teams.
That is the only reasoning I can think of that would make any sense (although I disagree).

Yup. Quick knocked the net off the moorings. I don't know if he did it on purpose, but it had nothing to do with the result of the play which was a goal. These rules are really stupid. A great game was cheapened between that, and the ridiculous shootout rules. |

It was odd considering the stuff they were letting go. Like when I think it was Backes was in the Russian corner getting his stick led and started throwing shots back. |

Ya the refs seemed a bit tighter on the Russians |

I don't know what the rationale is. But I'm not a fan of it. Those who hate shootouts and call them gimmicks definitely give credence to their arguments having the same player shoot over and over again. |

I think after 3 tries each, they just want to get it over with, allowing teams to play the best shoutout player over and over. |

Most of the purists don't like it. But from my experience the overwhelming majority of fans love the shootout. I've been to a lot of Flyers games when there is a shootout. And there is excitement and a buzz in the crowd, and everyone is up on their feet.

If I'm any goalie in the tourney watching today's game, I'm sliding hard into the post on any decent scoring chance from here on out. |

I hear this defense of the shootout often, and I don't buy it. Even if you don't like the shootout, you're still invested in your team and the outcome of the game. It's like a bad call, you're still going to watch the game even if you don't like it, and you're still going to react to the ensuing powerplay, the same as any other. |
