Yes, I fully believe they won gold in spite of him. He got the easy games through the round robin, and was the weaker goalie in nearly every single game they played. Had he not had the strongest team in front of him, they never would have made it past Slovakia.

In fact, I'd argue he absolutely didn't make the stops when needed, like 25 seconds left in the gold medal game.

When you have easily the strongest team in front of you, and come very close to losing several games, winning several by one goal, in most part because the goalie on the other side was better, I don't see how you can argue anything other than they won despite him. I think the only game he played, less Norway and Germany, where he was the stronger goalie, was Russia.

The fact that they eventually won does not mean he was the best goalie by any stretch of the imagination, like you seemed to try to claim.

I pretty vividly recall the commentators talking about shaky he looked in the gold medal game.

He didn't get the easier games in the round robin he got brought it because Marty poop the bed.

The goal they scored in the last 25 secs they scored was after 4 wacks at the puck with nobody clearing the crease, if the d had done their job they wouldn't have got that many attempts to put the puck in. Also in OT had had some great saves to keep the game going as the Canadians came out flat footed.

When you say a team won despite him you make it sound like he was giving up four or five goals he was giving up 2 goals. You are clearly biased and are trying to make it seem like he was useless.

You can vividly recall the announcers?? It's a shame you can't vividly recall watching the game.

Personally I think they should be starting Corey Crawford. That guys goaltending for the hawks got them the wins to win a cup last year. No other goalie did.
- prock

Actually Crawford was the favourite to win the conn smythe last year sooooooo I'm going to assume your understanding of goaltending is lacking.

So why aren't they starting him? He must be the best goalie out there. He's the only goalie that made the saves when needed, and got the wins to win a cup.

His round robin games were Norway and Germany. Brodeur played the us and Switzerland. Who had the easier games?

Its funny, you think he was good. I don't. I have stats on my side. I watched it just like you did. But because I think he wasn't as good as the other goalies, and just because the team won, you do, I must be wrong. And I'm biased.

So, since I don't agree, I'm biased, it must be because its the team he plays for, I must not like him, etc.

And I'm being a Richard? I disagree, have several facts on my aide, and all you've done isbinsinuate that its some sort of problem with me...... As far as I'm concerned that makes you the Richard.

Bobby lou didn't make the saves when needed to win a cup. He didn't get the wins. Crawford did. Your line of reasoning seems to say that crawford is the best goalie out there.

Why can't you give the guy any respect? S it the team he plays for?

So you're going to ignore the the playoff games he played to suit your arguement? This would be the definition of biased. No he didn't get easier games you're just conviently leaving out parts to suit your arguement.

You don't have any stats on your side His numbers are quality numbers you just are trying to say they are not. You are saying we won the gold in spite of him which would mean he played bad the numbers disagree with you. His shutout today was probably pure luck.

Omg he played Norway and Germany vs the us and Switzerland. How on earth can you say he didn't get the easier games?

His numbers were not as good as every other hockey nations starting goalie. Period. When the numbers of every other team are better, but you still win, then yes, that absolutely means you won in spite of that. That is blatantly obvious simple logic.

His shutout today was against who again?

I never said he was bad. In that Olympic tournament however, he was the weak link. Among the all star teams that countries could assemble, canada got the strongest offense. The strongest defense. And among the weakest goaltending. They won on the backs of the strongest offense and defense, which compensated for getting weaker goaltending than the other 6 or 7 nations who finished behind them.

If their forwards and d were traded for Slovakia's, no medal. Same with Sweden. And the US. They won gold despite that.

Well considering he play four to brodeur 2 and two of them were playoffs game and one the gold medal game it's pretty easy to say it.

His numbers weren't as good as others doesn't mean you won in spite of him and that is not simple logic. So leafs are winning games in spite of bad goaltending because we don't have the best numbers? Yeah that seems like logic.

It was against Austria I figure you would have at least watched the game today.

Edit: oh and since you seem to like stats Louong gaa was 1.76 good for third best in the 2010 Olympic goalies playing at least 40% of the teams total minutes. Weird I thought he was the worst of the bunch.

He got the easier round robin games. Its not like he was given a chance to fail in the round robin against Norway and Germany.

His numbers and play were not as good as other goalies. Lyongo gave them weaker goaltending against the US and Slovakia, but they won anyway.

That is the very definition of winning despite their goaltending.
