I hope Lums isn't pissed. If watching 4+ seasons of Breaking Bad has taught me anything it's not to piss of chemistry nerds.

Lots of Kessel love in the replies... I'm not one that joins the group though.

Phil is good. Phil has an awesome shot. Phil is still one dimentional.

It's funny, one of the commentors mentioned that:
I, on the other hand, believe that Phil has 2 moves when he starts taking it up the wing. Either he pulls up along the boards just over the blue line and waits for the trailer to come down the middle to pass the puck off to or he takes a wrist shot from outside of the face-off circle. He doesn't have the guts to take it to the net and every defenseman knows it.

Another commentor said that:
Again, not a reality. Phil doesn't make anyone around him better. He isn't a leader at all. He disappears against tougher teams. He doesn't compare to Crosby, Getzlaf, Ovechkin, Stamkos. Yes, he can put the puck in the net when he is open or when others do all the work for him, I'll give him that, but he definitely isn't and will never be the cornerstone of a team.

Personally I wish the Leafs had traded him at the trade deadline last year for a player, top prospect and a first round pick instead of signing him to such an outrageous contract. The Leafs may not have been in contention for a wildcard spot this year without him but they would be better off in years to come without Phil tying up $8mil a year.

Fair enough. Though I'm not sure he's hurt this team for years to come with his deal.

Yet, he's second in the league in goals. What does it matter if every d-man knows what he's going to do?

Do you think D don't know that Ovechkin is almost always going to curl and try to snap a shot on net through their legs? Or that Stamkos is beside the net on the PP already on one knee and waiting for that cross-crease one-timer?

JVR is on pace to eclipse his career best season by 20+ pts. Tyler Bozak has 32 points in 36 games.

Got any other arguments - preferrably valid?

That posters comments sums up a lot of Leaf fans in this city. They are never happy with what they have and always compare to other players around the league and find reasons why the others are better. The grass is always greener. I'm sure if we had Getzlaf, like he suggested as a better player, he would have been happy to trade him two years ago when he put up 60 points and looked slow.

The best way to look at it is this:

If someone were to offer the Leafs 2 first round picks and an additional second today, they don't even let that GM finish his sentence before hanging up the phone.

THIS.
He has been a PPG player the last 2.5seasons, and top8 in scoring each of those seasons.
If last season wasn't shortened, he would have 6 straight 30 goal seasons...and is ONLY 26...

Leafs fans ...

He is one of the top 5 point producers in the league over the past 3 seasons, and he is still young.

Fans of all other teams...

He is one-dimensional, soft, overrated and there is no way he is worth 2 firsts and a second. He would be a 3rd liner on most teams.

Trade? Getz would've been tarred, feathered, and hung by the ankles from the Bloor viaduct.

Nah, not against the blind Leaf love. I'll wait until the Leafs miss the playoffs this year. Or I'll wait a couple of years until all the rest of you Leaf fans are tired of Phil too and see him for the pu55y he is.

Who are the commentators that wrote this? Completely false.

Disappears against tougher teams? Doesn't make others better? Do the even watch?

I offered legitimate fact based counter points and the best you have is declaring 'blind leaf love'. Very ironically, this is what 'blind hate' is. Well done.

lol, Tarzan Dan. 640? Or was it 680 back in the day? Maybe even both at one point, I think one channel went to talk and moved to the other.

I can't wait to get tired of Phil being one of the best offensive players in the league.

He's got a 65 Flex stick. if anyone touches it he's useless. Try and watch him stick handle on break aways. And he'll never take a slap shot. All they'd have to do is press on his stick and he'd be useless
