JP and Kotalik both had good years. I wanted JP to stay too, I actually forgot he wasn't for 06-07.... That seems weird to me
- sbroads24

JP passed the eye test though
Kotalik never did IMO

then again I thought Mac was fine, another player we forget during the darcy blunder

Ulmark will be ready in 2 years

get Greiss or Elliot to split time during the next year or so

keep drafting them every year (rds 5th and higher) and keep the pipeline full

- homiedclown

Greiss another in a long list of players they will get when it's to late.

Holding on to Max for far to long is on that blunder list.

Mike Grier had a point and was right when he left after the 05/06 season.

Who knew?

I would have too, but, as you and I both said before, even if that happens, and everything else remained unchanged, this team is still in hole it is now. Kotalik over Dumont isn't what doomed this team.
- buffalofan19

Nope but I'd of rather had JP for the playoffs than Kotalik.

I always liked MacArthur, losing him and a few others is why we went from lightning fast to incredibly slow pretty quick.

Not really a fan of Roy...but he was quick...when he left you could see the team moving slower...ennis and gerbe are/were quick...but the team doesn't feel the same

You can be a decent team is you are fast, even if you don't have elite talent.

Something I read says that Russia's big weakness was their defense. I haven't looked at their lineup, but in general, you don't hear of top tier defenders being Russian.

It's pretty much Markov and then some other guys.

Teams tend to just turn the corner. Colorado has 0 defense yet because of their speed and decent goaltending they are a good team. I can guarantee the Isles won't finish bottom 2 next season. Not to mention they will make a coaching change this off season
- sbroads24

Colorado is a good point...
But I see the NYI more like Edmonton
They might not finish bottom2, but I think bottom5 is pretty likely
Depends on what they add in the offseason

Ullmark looks great this year, but it's still far from a guarentee his play can translate
I'd feel a lot better if we had someone like Allen
Then we could ease Ullmark, Makarov, etc into a role gradually... Whether that be as a solid backup or potential challenger for the starting job

I think a coaching change and a guy like Elliott or Halak or even Miller will make them a decent team. They play everyone close, they lose a lot of games. 4-3 5-4. They will start winning some of those games

the other problem with darcy

letting the top 2 centers walk and trust connolly , often injured, to be your second center moving forward with no back up plan

- homiedclown

He didn't LET them walk away
I'm blaming ppl above his head for that disaster

What I blame Darcy (Quinn) for is their policy of not negotiating during the season.

Which was so moronic considering how good were, you knew their prices would skyrocket

Blame Quinn and Galisano . It was their policy . Quinn tried to destroy this team twice . Once when he ran Doug Moss out of town and the second time when he tied Darcy's hands . Little weasel knew nothing about running a pro sports franchise . He was brought in to over see construction of the new arena . Back stabbing weasel wormed his way to the top . Then managed to get in Galisano's good graces when he bought the team and weaseled his way in again. Hopefully he chokes on the 5 million Galisano gave him from the sale and never shows his face around here again.

But can they get a goalie?
Lets assume Miller signs w StL
Hiller stays in Anaheim
Halak to Washington
Elliot to Minnesota

Sure,
NYI could get one of them...
But ALL those situations are MUCH better than NYI
And then you've got a handful of other teams that could be looking as well...
Buffalo, Calgary, Edmonton are some obvious ones

I could see Pitt wanting someone if Fleury burns out again

Idk...
I could see the Isles not getting a significant goalie
If they don't,
They're bottom 5 for sure IMO

Darcy supposedly did with Drury though & then Quinn wouldn't sign off on the deal
There's plenty to blame Darcy for...
I don't see Briere/Drury as one of them
Although he def could've handled it better
