You do realize that most of the time it is your fellow US citizens that are dumping their garbage in the parking lot, because they are too damn lazy to walk the 20 feet.

Side note, I have never met a person from Canada I have not liked.

Agree. BTW, Candian Fans (during non-leaf games) are far better than any fair weather Sabre fan to sit next too.

Yeah and I'm an American citizen who pays federal, state, school, and sales tax. And I also spend money in Canada every year on hotels and other things. It doesn't make me special and people don't have to bow down to me.
- Buffalo-Sabres

Give me a break . No one is asking you to bow down . Quit being the ugly american here . The economic impact for the area is huge whether you think so or not. If you feel you have to female dog about our northern neighbors coming to spend money your not seeing the big picture. Like I said before the Canadian dollar is being devalued by the Canadian Government to try and stop cross border shopping . I hope they do not succeed. A soft Canadian dollar effects me big time as I import a lot of US made product to Canada, hurts my sales.

Why dont you hate people from NJ, OH, PA, or Maine? They all have people that litter, and I assume they have done it here if visiting.

Is it because there is an imaginary line drawn in the sand that seperates the US and Canada.

If that line is not there, and we are all one nation, do you still hate them?

This has to be the dumbest post on the Internet today. You really think the Canadian govt. is deliberately devaluing the Canadian dollar to stop cross border shopping? . So they are going to drop the value of the dollar to keep the. Economy strong? x 1000. We are done here.

I think the main point of all of this is that when any of us travels from one place to another (whether it's another state or another country), we all need to be more aware of how we're acting and make sure to be respectful of the place and the people around us.

You have no idea what you are talking about . I do 25% of my business in Canada. I have to follow these things closely . The Canadian government stated this months ago . To drive exports , stop cross border shopping and try to lure the film industry back to Canada. Their goal is a 75 cent value in US dollars for the Canadian dollar. You do not think a government can manipulate these things ? Give your head a shake ! You truly are acting like an Ugly american here.

Take a look . You think this is happening on its own

I wish the US played today. I feel like it's been forever that the NHL went on break already. I know it's really only been since Saturday, but it feels like an eternity.

I wish the NHL players didnt play in the olympics. The break is stupid. What other major sport stops because its players have to go play in a different tournament.

Every countries team should be limited to players 21 or under. Wherever they get them from is fine. That way no leagues have to shut down.

Thank good they are coming here and spending their money . They fill our restaurants , stores and hotels. Take a look at Buffalo airport . 70 % of the cars are Canadian without them , the Buffalo economy would suck . We can put up with the garbage they leave, because they leave their money too. There are some rude ones , but US has its share of rude ones too.

Canadian dollar keeps diving and we may stop seeing them. The economic impact they have here is much needed . Especially the additional tax dollars generated. So let's not cry about them spending money here. Lots of other things to whine about.

I lol'd because every time I go there, there's some goofy hoser with his dumb hoser buddy with a Canadian suit on. No, not the rock n roll jean jacket and jeans combo..the damn maple leaf planted all over their pants, shirt, jacket, hat and whatever other dopey piece of material they decide to wear. And no, this isn't during Olympic season. This is like some random Monday or whatever.

Even so, if you're going into someone else's home the least you could is be respectful. After all they chose to go there. Anytime I'm outside of Canada I (along with many others I know) try to be extra nice because you're in there backyard now and we're thankful to them for letting us be there.

Wow, it'd be refreshing to see individuals as yourself walking out of a world juniors game (almost got jumped for no reason at HSBC by 4 Kessel fans.) or, like..the malls. Restaurants...

I know that the NHL wasn't a huge fan of participating in this Olympics. They felt that the security risks weren't worth it. However, the players really enjoy going.

As far as the major sports shutting down, the NBA players participate, it just so happens to fall during a time that the league isn't in session. The NFL isn't affected because it's strictly a US sport and isn't an Olympic event.

For the most part, our major sports here aren't really major sports anywhere else so it's hard to really make that jusitification.

Does anyone know if the leagues in Europe (KHL, Swedish Elite League, etc) shut down for the Olympics as well?

I'm not sure whats more believable. That you did nothing to provoke them, or that if you did do nothing, you knew that all 4 Kessel Fans.

I agree, but some of these folks do not want to realize the economic impact of the cross border shoppers. I belong to Buffalo - Niagara partnership and they send us info frequently of the additional tax revenue generated. Thank you Canadians for that . That is all I am saying . As for the garbage , I think the malls should provide more garbage containers in the parking lots. Then local law enforcement should drive around giving out healthy fines for those that don't use them . Problem solved
- Maximum Signal

It'd cost more but I bet would generate more city revenue:

Parking lot cameras. Everywhere. See a pile of garbage in the lot? Rewind the tape, see who put it there, send them a nice $60 ticket to their home in Canada (most likely). I'd be retired if I was collecting that revenue. For six months.

lol

I was walking ahead of 4 self proclaimed Toronto fans and they antagonized me for my USA jersey. So I said thank you for spending your money in a country you supposedly hate, and in 2010, asked them how the playoffs were. Fortunately I walked up to a light with about 10 USA fans and they backed off. Big surprise there.

..was that Jan 2011 or 2012?

$60 ?? . I say we make it $150 . And they cannot cross the border till the fine is paid. Cheektowaga police could generate a fortune at Galleria . Word would get out . The practice would stop pretty quick or a butt load of revenue would be generated . I am good with either !

Kind of. There are Candian Jerks. There are far more Jerks that live in Buffalo.

What you guys are all experiencing is confirmation Bias. If a candian is acting like you or I you don't notice at all. But if he/she is being an A$$ you stuff that in the Candian jerk part of the brain.

I have experienced far more positive than negative candian experiences at the Mall throughout the years, they are (for the most part) exceptionally generous and polite.

My boss from a company I worked for a few years ago is Canadian, living in Kitch. He took us (4 Americans) out to dinner in Columbus during a conference. He got drunk, bought about $250 worth of drinks for the 5 of us and tipped the waitress 18 dollars. I consider this guy a pretty nice guy too. My bias comes from observation of people I don't know as well as people I do. This isn't to say I've ran into my fair share of decent Canadians as well. I've had quite a few convos at Sabres vs not-Leafs games. I just stay away from Canada as often as I can because there's a lot of things I don't like about the country itself..so I suppose my sample size is small.

As I said Cheektowaga Police should be patrolling the lot and giving out healthy littering fines ( another source of revenue ) Do that long enough and it will stop . Plus they cannot cross the border with an outstanding summons so they have no choice but to pay it.

I can't imagine the NYI not using this years pick if it remains this high
If it ends up being closer to 10, then I could see them pass it to us

The dream is...
2014 Reinhart
2015 McDavid
2015 Eichel (NYI pick)

I do think NYI will have a hard time attracting UFAs this offseason... So there's a really good chance they stink again next year
Vanek is gone... Strome won't be productive right away, so they prob need TWO top6 guys
What to do in net?
And if McDonald leaves, then they need AT LEAST two quality defensemen

For a team that hasn't won in forever,
And was crappy this year...
MAYBE they can buy 1 or two pieces, but those would just replace Vanek & McDonald, so they'd again likely be crap

- jdfitz77

Don't forget they traded us their 2nd round pick in 2015 already. So if they don't give us this year's #1 they could potentially not have a pick in next year's draft until the 3rd round. That would be a tough pill to swallow for a rebuilding team going into a new building. This is all subject to change depending on what they get back for Vanek and/or McDonald.
