OEL and Petro together make over $12M against the cap. Pretty much have no choice but to fill the rest of the D with value buys, otherwise you'll have balance issues up front and in net.
- Tomahawk

Those guys are locked up long term. Getting those guys for those numbers is an absolute steal.

Seth Jones won't be the best defenseman in the league in 2 years. By the time he develops into a great player, you will need to pay him too.

I thought the scenario was picking one player to build a team around? Cost is not going to be a consideration in my view for choosing that player.

Great points. As the cap rises, players signed to long term deals get cheaper and cheaper.

He's as good as any other rookie D in the league...and most veterans.

When you take everything into consideration; age, salary, level of play I go

1. Petro
2. OEL
3. Weber
4. Suter
5. Keith
6. Jones
7. Doughty
8. Subban
9. Karlsson
10. Hedman
11. Fowler
12. McDonagh

This is off the top of my head so don't kill me if I missed someone. Just trying to spark debate.

Agreed. How is Mez not in your top-5? And where is Samuel "Stick Throw" Morin?

This might be old news, but I just saw that the Phillies signed AJ Burnett; 1 year, 16million. Guess they decided to spend some $$ after all.

I'd be ticked if it was multi year, but for one year I can live with it. They arent very deep when it comes to starting pitching and I'd rather see Burnett as the #3 starter over Kendrick

Just as they signed him, Hamels announced he has had shoulder tightness and will not be ready for opening day.

Yeah
a few years ago who would have though that the Phils be short of pitching, the Eagles would have a great running game and the Flyers strength would be goaltending!

We live in a world where the numbers are deeply relied upon by businesses, governments, scientists and consumer groups to describe multi-variable things like complex markets, product reliability, human behavior and the freakin' weather, and you're telling me the buck stops at hockey, because men with sticks?
- Tomahawk

I thought we lived in a world with walls. And men to stand guard on those walls.
