Right, but if I'm looking at it from Phoenix's perspective. Even if Couturier is included, I don't think I would do it. It would have to be a ridiculous package to trade OEL.

Oh yeah, I agree. Even if they get good value, why move a (the?) cornerstone of their roster? Even an overpayment may not convince them.

Over Pietrangelo, Weber, Suter, Seth Jones and Lukas Krajicek?

He'd be the first D I'd pick if I could start a team from scratch today.

Looked like Sweden was going to run away with this thing. Impressed with the Czechs ability to weather the storm and battle back to make it a game.

Weber is only 28. He has at least 10 good years left.

Honestly, I think all three of those guys could eclipse Weber in a couple of years.

He'd be my pick, only because his physicality, shot power, and mean streak outweigh (to me, personally) the disparity between himself and a guy like OEL. But if you're talking bang for your buck, it's OEL.

You think Seth Jones will be better than Weber in 2-3 years? I think he could be in 5 years.

Think Petro's already on the verge of eclipsing Weber, and Jones will be a lot quicker to the punch than Petro was.

Still is but the Czechs have played very well since falling behind 4-0. Have outshot Sweden 11-3 in the third.

Plus, there's no way I'd take Seth Jones over Pietrangelo. Pietrangelo is already one of the best defenseman in the League. Jones might be, and I emphasize might be.

When you take everything into consideration; age, salary, level of play I go

1. Petro
2. OEL
3. Weber
4. Suter
5. Keith
6. Jones
7. Doughty
8. Subban
9. Karlsson
10. Hedman
11. Fowler
12. McDonagh

This is off the top of my head so don't kill me if I missed someone. Just trying to spark debate.

My list would definitely include Trouba, Hamilton, and maybe Brodin.

I'm obviously saving all my cap dollars for Sid, Stammer, G, Toews, Rask and Geno, lol.

I prefer guys who have shown something rather than the ones with massive potential. I like Trouba, Hamilton and Brodin, but if I have one chance, I'll go with the safer choice.

Less about talent evaluation and more about the amount of risk you'd be willing to take.

Oh indeed. He is looking like a stud in this game so far at least. Me and some buddies were just talking about how we underrated the swedish roster. Lots of star players there.

Back to OEL - what do you think it would take to pry him away?

I actually didn't. I was thinking of him around the 10-12 range. If I had more time to think and evaluate I may have chosen him.

Also, I know it was sarcasm.

I think of it from a value standpoint... D are the most expensive commodity in the league, so having cheap kids who can far outplay their salaries is a boon for the entire team. Whereas, genuinely top-flight forwards and goalies are worth every penny... it's kind of a reverse-Homer approach to team-building, lol.
