All of a sudden, I'm really hoping we get pummeled with snow. I want a damn good excuse to stay in and watch the US game tomorrow.
- BulliesPhan87

I work from home 4 days a week and my company adopted a policy that if you can work from home but the office is closed due to weather, you still have to work

All the snow days this year prompted that change I'm sure. You should see my DVr though, jam packed with scheduled Olympic hockey recordings

But then it can all melt right away on Friday morning. Also, Temple Law can shut down tomorrow, so you get to watch too. Everybody wins.

I'm just a hockey fan. I'm not a GM or someone that makes a living off of the sport. This is why advanced stats don't mean anything to me. Do I need I drill down the numbers so far to see how much better grossman or any other player is if they take a poop before or after a game? Nope.

I'm sure there is plenty of merit and usefulness to those in the business, but as a hockey fan, I couldn't care less.

On another note, can't wait for the men's Olympic hockey to start. Withdrawal is kicking into high gear!

Completely understandable. I'd really like to move on to another topic. I think a line has been drawn in the sand, and the tug of war is a stalemate. So much more to talk about, such as the Olympics, trade deadline, Flyers down the stretch. We can even delve into talk about what the Flyers should do in the off season. We've got a substantial break in the action here. Hopefully Bill's blog will take us in another direction. And yes, I know I've beaten the topic to death as much as anyone.

Also, I win the lottery, everybody finds some common ground about statistics, and world peace is achieved overnight.

and crosby deposits 42 points on a magnificent playoff run in which he takes home the smyth while leading the pens to the cup.

See, I can understand this type of viewpoint... if you're more interested in reveling in the more human elements of the game, that's great. We're all inundated with enough numbers, charts and spreadsheets as it is.

Live and let live.

What I don't understand is people lashing out at a new way of looking at things just because they find it different, hard to understand, threatening, disruptive or not supportive of their personal views.

I don't hold the numbers as gospel, but I am the kind of fan that is eager to drink up the game in any shape or form. IMO, progress is something to celebrate.

Now you're going too far. We all know that Conn Smyth belongs to Flyers ultraprospect Jason Akeson.

I plan on waking up at 7am. Making myself a nice breakfast. Enjoying that breakfast while watching USA hockey then taking the day off and lounging in a nice, warm house.

Live and let live requires a mutual effort. Everybody is framing their side as the reasonable "stats are good but you also have to watch the game" viewpoint, but then exaggerates the other guy's viewpoint as either some regressive caveman perspective, or as some beep boop detached robot who doesn't watch hockey perspective. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I'm not saying everybody has to agree (or even like each other), but it's not a problem exacerbated purely by one person or one side of the debate. It's been a team effort to make the discussion so toxic.

I did/do like the debate and find it interesting, though it seems the debate has taken a different tone or direction than what I'm interested in. Either way you are right, plenty of other topics and with Olympic hockey beginning, that should help.

I hope the flyers are as ready to go as I will be when the season gets back underway.

And I understand your viewpoint as well. It's not even that I'm against advanced stats, I just think the debate has turned into something else which I'm not interested in. I just think once it turns into a back and forth competition of who's right and who's wrong, I'm ready to step aside on the issue.

How long have Corsi and fenwick been utilized in the league, BTW?

Well first thing to do in the offseason is go fishing!

They really need to do the following:

Don't re-sign Timonen, Meszaros, Emery or Downie

Re-sign Raffl and Gustafsson

Using no more than 2 of the following: B Schenn, Laughton, Couturier, L Schenn, 2014 1st and 2015 1st make a trade for an impact, mobile dman under 30.

Sign one FA dman who can add some mobility to the bottom half of the D corps

If the cap space is available, try to add one more top 6 winger.

Sign a more reasonably priced back up goalie, 1 million cap hit max

I also would like to see either Paddock or Mullen replaced with an assistant coach who was a defenseman. Currently all assistants are former forwards.

Corsi goes back to the 80's, I think.

The concept wasn't applied to skaters until mid 2000's, and only entered mainstream consciousness in the past 2-3 years.
