Avoid overtimes by giving 3 points to a regulation win instead of 2. Then we would see more intensity at the end of games for teams that need that extra point........ as well as reward the teams that deserve it. - Hawkytalk
That's what they are doing in Sochi.
U.S. only got 2 points today, Russia 1. |

Its all about television and time allotted to complete a game - both at the Olympics and in the NHL. - RickJ
Aye, and coupling that factor with the timing aspect of this condensed Olympic schedule = a bad idea for all parties involved.
Imagine a team involved in 3 triple OT games in the span of four days: would be a great spectacle for the viewer to some extent, but horribly difficult minutes for those players.
As much as I hate the shootout, I am just fine with it playing out this way. Less of a chance for the Hawks over there to get even more burned out then they already would be. |

Kane was sitting next to Backes during shotoout, who was describing Oshie's vast array of shootout moves to him. #Blackhawks #Blues #BFFs |

So would someone help me understand why the shoot out was the Oshie And Kovalchuk show? Not only did the SO suck, but the fact it was limited to a small few just affirmed how stupid it is as a determinant. |

I guess it is a rule in these international games. I remember the World Juniors a few years ago was the Toews, Kane, and Jack Johnson show. Toews scored 3 huge goals and 3 different ways. |

If it's an acceptable way to determine a winner, maybe they should just skip the game altogether and go right to the shootout. That way no more NHL players get hurt, and Quick/Oshie can bring home the gold all by themselves. Go TEAM. |

Also the AHL is not known for defense. - jhawk59
Yeah, this is somewhat true. It's more of a sloppy, uncoordinated game in the A. However, this idea doesn't doesn't excuse the fact that team the defense in Rockford is flat out horrible as a whole. Also, it shouldn't be viewed as a knock to Morin either. That kid has played his tail off for the last month, and really wants another shot in the NHL. |

Hockey's a team game. In spite of the outcome, I don't like that the game was decided by a combined 5 players. |

I am with you, Ogie...
Why play an entire game, then an overtime,if the one on one os they way you settle it?
The shoot-out has passed it's shelf life...
it now is SO prevalent and determines play teams over non playoff teams.
I just think if you had 3 on 3 there would be SO MANY MORE goals scored, that actually involved 3 attackers versus 3 defenders and goaltender and that is the RIGHT way a team sport should have an outcome.
Did either Russia or Canada DESERVE a loss?
(maybe Russia really don't deserve it after quick accidentally dislodged his own net....)
An aside is as hawk fans we are going to have many mant years of strong competition against the Blues in the future, and the fact that Oshie and Tarasenko are so good in the shoot-out, it is almost as if a team plays Hitch's style and just hangs around, get's a tie, and that is all they need to get a WIN...they only need to TIE...and then do the shoot-out.
I have never liked the shoot-out whether the hawks win it or not....and actually tuck them in my head as TIES...and have trouble remembering who had more one on one wins.
On another note:
My favorite part of the Russia USA game was when the the Russina defender and garbbed backus' stick after the check and the play went up ice and backus started punching the guy to the head AND THE RUSSIAN FANS were going CRAZY, thinking there should be a call...so funny! |

It took months but I finally have settled on the ranks of the top 259 prospects in this "below average and wait along time to see if they even can be players" 2014 draft class.
http://www.draftsite.com/nhl/mock-draft/2014/
Now all I have to do is going back and making sure every prospect has a bit of a description.
The Projected Undrafted players is an area I put the next fifty, but was limited to ten in each position...this is an area of the site the owner had set up for the exess NFL & NBA possibles, so I used it.
There are STILL another 30 in the database I had no room to show...
If you are going to go to the site to get a look-see remember how it works.
Click on a player, and if I wrote something it will show up.
Click on a team and you will see whatver players are in their present slottings. (and remember the slots are based on current standing and will change...)
Click on T and who will see how the picks can into the teams possession.
and the REDRAFTS section is just me telling YOU who would have gone earlier/later in the drafts that took place four draft classes before...they still get re-alligned as players taken finally start making their mark in the bigs...
... and if you find the ton of typos I surely made, can you PM me to save me embarrassment?
