With all the cold weather and the Hawks vacation pictures in warm, sunny places I'm really starting to resent this team.

One of the Blackhawks fans I follow on Twitter posed the question this morning - If you could keep just one guy who would it be Shaw or Saad? For me it's Saad, he has more upside.
I think a more difficult decision would be Shaw or Kruger (for the long term). |

TOUGH CALL...prolly lean Saad'r though Shaw's got more heart/balls than pretty much anyone on our team.

Swedes up 2-0. This one is over, time to rest Kruger, Hjalmarsson, Oduya and Roszival. |

After the '14-'15 season, Kane, Toews, Leddy, Saad, Oduya, Roszival and Kruger will all need new deals. Hypotheically, I would assume Toews and Kane are locks to stay, and Oduya and Roszival will be walking. Depending on how much cap room is left once Kane and Toews have re-upped, Bowman might have to make a choice cap wise to lose one or maybe two of Kruger, Saad and Leddy.
Who should stay and who should go? |

I would think Clendenning should be ready to jump in so perhaps Oduya walks, Leddy to 2nd pairing, Roszival will be gone. If Bickell does not pick it up he may get dumped too. From your list I keep Kane, Toews, Saad, Leddy (still on the fence about him), and Krugman

That's not what I said.
I was floating the hypothetical idea that their might not be enough cap room to retain one or two of Kruger, Saad and Leddy.
If it came down to it, who would you keep and who would you let walk out of that group? |

Again? Haha, seriously. Politics are (frank)ing lame, cant we just talk about who our powerplay quarterback is gonna be? Or some poop like that. |

Saad has to stay, without a doubt. I think Kruger should stay too, especially now that he's made the improvements in faceoffs (56.5%). If there's not enough room to keep some of these young guys I'd rather see Stan find a way to unload Bickell. Alternatively, if a only a bit of cap space is needed Stan could free up $2.2 million by trading Versteeg. I don't want to see Steeger go, but I'm sure Stan could find a taker given Versteeg's cap hit. |

This is fun bar talk, but it is going to come down to two things. One is how they do from now until then. The other is how the kids develop in Rockford. Saad is not leaving, imo, because he's a top 6 guy and the Hawks seem to have few prospects to fill this role. Kruger, to me, would be easiest to replace if it is true that most Rockford prospects project well as bottom six guys. For Leddy, I think the decision could come down to him or Oduya, and that choice will be affected greatly by Leddy's continued development (or lack thereof). Rozie, Brookbank and Kostka will all be gone, so they'll need a bunch of d-men to come up in the next few years.
If forced to guess - which you're forcing me to do, you wicked person, you - my order of departure would be Krugman, Leddy, Saad. |
