They might trade Murphy for less than Rundblad or Gormley, though
- Jsaquella

Murphy's leap-frogged the other two in terms of immediate readiness... he's one of the main reasons why Rundblad can't crack the lineup. He could be inserted into the Flyers' lineup right away, if they could swing a deal.

However, Rundblad's probably the lowest hanging fruit at this point... he's got the most expendable skill set for them.

I suspect it would take a lot more than Downie to land the other two.

Agreed. I expect more smoke than fire.

Teams going to have 8 or 9 days after the break, the way the East is all jammed,it's going to be interesting. Teams are really jammed up, so a team like NJ a point or two out might not sell & might even be modest shoppers

- Jsaquella

Yeah, here's hoping GM's can put their heads together and piece together a few even-money, 'hockey trades'... because yeah... not a lot of wiggle room in the standings or in most teams' cap situations.

Otherwise, TDL show is going to be hours upon hours of #DregerFace.

I think the Flyers can make some noise this playoffs.
- KGBflyers10

Make some noise, yes,

Make a legit Cup run...probably not.

They're a team that, if they play well, can hang with any team and could probably pull an upset over a few games, or even a round. But I don't think they have the skill to beat Boston or any of the WC power houses.

They'd certainly need another confluence of fortunate outcomes like 2010... face teams that struggle to score, have opponents implode, remain mostly healthy, that sort of thing.

If they could take a round, or dare I say two, that'd be huge imo. It wouldn't alter the needs on this roster, but it'd be a big boost to a team whose core was questioned through last season and the start of this one.

All of this.

This team COULD make a run, sure.

But they'll need help.

It's certainly nothing I'd bet my hard earned money on.

I wouldn't stock up at the TDL, that's for sure. Let these guys gut it out, if they put the complete effort in (I know, easier said than done) they can make some noise. Especially if they get a favorable match up.

I agree. Their weaknesses would eventually do them in. The only way would be if mason just played unbeleivably. Which in my view would have to be playing even better than Quick and Thomas played in recent playoffs. An unlikely happening.

That team was much better than this one. That team's top 4 defenseman were as good as anyone's in hockey. Their forward depth was also much stronger. The only significant upgrade is the goaltending.

I agree. And it would give valuable playoff experience to some of the younger players.

Agreed.

I'd love to see them make a run (because nothing in sports is better than the SC playoffs, IMO), but my expectations are low.

Wouldn't we love to go back in time and put Mason on that team?

I like Mason a lot, but there are so many other goalies you can say the same thing about in the East. Rask, Lundqvist, Bishop, Price, Bernier, Bobrovsky, Fleury have all shown an ability to get hot and play very well.

It's great that we finally have a goalie who can steal a game and help the team, but he's not going to outplay those other guys on a nightly basis. The team will need to outplay the other team.
