it's okay, winning 13 cups makes it easier to forget the bad stretches that every team goes through. pity you can't do the same.
- sensnucksnocups

Actually, YOUR team hasn't won any cups. A team using the same name a half a century ago won a few cups(46 years ago to be exact since the last one), and at least 2 of the 13 were won under a different name. So not sure you really have much street cred at this point bragging about events that most likely happened before you ever existed.

Just out of curiosity, how many players from the last Leafs cup are still alive? How many of them can you actually name without a reference? How about the first 9 cups? Bet you don't even know off hand in what years they won them without looking it up...

Either way, makes no difference. If this kind of simple minded thinking is what passes as credible nowdays, I guess I'll just say I'm a Montreal fan and meh to your 13 cups. My teams 24 trumps that!

A washed-up Brodeur or an in-his-prime Miller?

I doubt Brodeur's availability will impact the Sabres return for Miller.

Love Brodeur but honestly if the "choice" is between him and Miller that's not much of a choice at all. I mean I think he'd be fairly cheap to get but at this stage of his career wouldn't be an upgrade.

Not to mention most of the teams rumored for Miller have actual long term goaltending concerns so Marty isn't a great option.

To quote Slim Charles, the thing about the old days...they the OLD days.

Doesn't matter how many cups your team won back in the day, if you haven't won anything within past ~5 years bragging rights are worthless.

Good pairing. I'm a Canuck fan, but Subban is definitely the better player. Hamhuis the safer guy for sure though. Babcock definitely seems to want to have a solid defensive team. Keith/Doughty/Petro/JBo/Weber should still provide enough offense, but it's kinda hard to scratch a guy who just won the Norris.....
- Nucker101

Doughty is expected to bring offence when he can, so he needs a defensive D to cover for him, i.e., Vlasic. All the D pairings are set this way. Subban with Doughty would be interesting, but could be a disaster defensively. Better to have Hamhuis with Doughty than Subban also.

I do like Subban, but the Norris is voted on by the Media who seem to base most awards on offensive stats. Babcock is insistent on defensive responsibility, so Subban will have a short leash whenever he gets the chance to play.
Also, Subban hasn't done much his last 15 or so games, so you can't say that he's going into this tourney as a hot player.

Which Cup contenders have both the cap room and a goaltending situation where Brodeur would be an upgrade?

I'm not sure how many of us boast about winning a bunch of cups 40 years ago. It seems to me most other team's fans are constantly reminding Leaf fans of this fact with the incredibly witty chirp: "1967".

That doesn't take away from the fact, however that the Maple Leafs franchise has won the Cup, much unlike many other franchises.

But they would have to play tougher teams in the west. Meaning they wouldn't have as many points.

There is no situation where I see Brodeur playing as a starter. But maybe a team with a shaky backup would inquire about Brodeur. Worst comes to worst Brodeur is a veteran presence in the room and if the goalie is particularly young, Brodeur may help calm his nerves with helpful advice from a legend come playoff time.

But all in all, as an avs fan I would not touch Brody with a 12 foot poll. We already have our "Brodeur" in Jiggy.

Nope, doesn't take anything away from a highly decorated and storied franchise. But when you were born after 1967 and you find yourself a card carrying member of Leaf fandom, bragging about 13 cups (all won in your preexistence) is a bit silly. Especially when said fan is trying to rip on the fan of a team that has largely been one of the most successful teams in the NHL over the past decade.

Brodeur best goalie of all time? I don't think so. He's only ever played for the defensively minded Devils.

I'd offer up Patrick Roy instead given the two teams he has played for played different styles and he performed well for both.

And I'm a Leafs fan too!

I feel their value would be less because they may not be as effective or as productive with one another one separate teams. Hasn't been seen before. For a reason.

Well Daniel Sedin has what? 0 goals in his last like 20 games with his brother out?

What can I say. We Canucks fans are a passionate bunch that hates loosing. Maybe if we suck like the leafs for the next 10 years then we could get used to it.
- Linden_4_Capt

your team has sucked since they've entered the NHL, every fan base is passionate, you're not special, Canuck fans are just idiots.

is bacock going crazy?
why is carter on the first line and not duchene who is much faster and can make far better use of the open ice.

- Jurco_28

Because that's what Crosby is there for, Carter has a better shot than Duchene. Let me guess, Colorado fan?

aside from maybe Kessler...we don't want what Vancouver is selling
- Daddichronic

Hmmm.....Hamhuis, Bieksa, Edler (too a lesser degree) and Kesler could and would help any and all teams in the NHL.
