I do include Gio as part of the core, certainly now and in the future as well. I agree that he'll likely be on the decline when we are back in the P.O. but I think he'll still be able to play as the #4 Dman and will remain the leader and captain. It is quite possible he is moved sooner rather than later should a younger player emerge as a leader quickly, something like Landeskog, but im not sure I see that happening.

As for GlenX, I thought at the start of the year that we needed him but the team seems fo be getting on just fine without. If we can use him in the off season to get a good return we should move him. I still like him but im not sure we need all of these vets still. 1 of GlenX or Hudler we could afford to move I think. But certainly 1 or 2nd vets should remain in our top 6th. Whether that's one of these 2 or Stempy or Cammi, we'll see what happens.

There Colin, I disagreed with someone. The hits should start to roll now.

Even when we disagree we aren't that far off in our opinions

Is Curtis Glencross just a slightly more skilled version of 2003-4 Shean Donovan?
- salumba

Though Donovan was much faster and skated past the net more without a shot on goal. He....was...terrible.

so, actually no, except for the intensity part.

Cammi and Hudler > Stempniak and GlenX. Higher hit on the cap but it will help reach the floor. I would only keep Hudler out of the 4 but I would rather they sign Cammi over a guy like Heatley.

Cammi, Heater, which is more likely to sign a 1 year?

Edit: not at all that I want Heatley on this team.

Wow that is awesome news. So that would mean as soon as the college season finishes or right away?

So, what would it take to trade up and get Buffalo's first pick? I understand they have a lot of D prospects. I hate to say it but maybe package Sven? Or J Hockey? They seem to be similar players.

It would be after the college season finishes I believe.

If his team makes it to the final of the Frozen 4 (I believe this is after the Flames play their final game) then we will have to wait until next year to see him in a Flames uni. They would probably send him to Abbottsford though (providing they are still playing)

Why would you want to trade multiple good assets including youth in a package to pick up 1 unknown? Sven has his issues but he will be an NHL'r. If we can grab a high 1st by moving out vets that are not part of the future great. Otherwise, I don't think we're at a point where we should be selling off young assets for draft picks.

I think the last game of the FF is Apr. 12. CGY's last game is the 13th. More likely Gaudreau and Arnold debut in Abbotsford for the Heart and their playoff run. Either way, them both signing wojld be fantastic news for the organization and the fans.

My thinking was this. We seem to have a a number of small gifted forwards (JHock, Sven, Gaudreax (spelling?). Drafting Ekblad would make our back end pretty solid as from what I have seen he is stated to be a #1D.

Next year we are in the McDavid sweepstakes. So if we draft a forward this year and another next year we might end up like our neighbours from the North.

I agree that we don't want to be selling off assets but if we have a surplus of one position and a glaring need in another it could make sense.

Also Sven just had a quiet 5 game point streak snapped down in ABB....nobody seems to say anything when he does good things.

I know what you're saying and to an extent I agree. But I'm not sure I'm ready to sell off high skilled forwards like Sven or Gaudreau (Johnny Hockey- same guy) for a Dman that is an unknown. Ekblad may turn out to be everything everyone says he could be. He may not. We do have an excess of LW in the system, Sven, Gaudreau, Klimchuk etc. but theyre all tracking well, even Sven despite his early season hiccups. I would consider a B prospect and a something but I wouldn't yet want to give up on our top guys.

At some point we will likely have to move some but I don't right now. I would argue we have a bigger log jam with bottom 6 centers. Granlund, Knight, Reinhart and Arnold are all likely battling for that spot. I can see Arnold or Knight getting moved to RW because they shoot right and we REALLY lack at RW. I would rather move Granlund then Sven or Gaudreau.

All very true. Thanks for the heads up on J Hockey = Gaudreau…..I was thinking Poirier. It will be interesting to see what Burke does moving forward. He does love having a stud D man.

I forgot last season went a little later into the year than this one will. I was expecting a Hanowski type treatment, sign him, get him over and into a few games quickly, and show them what needs to be done for next year if they hope to play full time in the NHL. Assuming Boston college wins the championship, I don't see them playing any pro games this year. The heat are one of the top team in the AHL, and giving two players playing time might ruin the hardwork those guys have put in all year long...so unless there are injuries or a definite need for those two on the heat, I don't see them making their debut during the playoffs.
