No what I'd love to see? Lauridsen put in Grossmann's spot.

He did, and he led the flyers out of a top 10 pick while scoring two goals. Crisp breakout passes, crease clearing ability, smooth skating.

I think Lauridsen played himself onto the radar in his 15 games last Season. And showed that he has a physical skillset that could one day lead to a role as a depth defenseman in the NHL. But he has a clear weakness in puck skills, he handled it like a grenade. And although he's not slow, I wouldn't label him as smooth skating. Although I don't see that as a factor in whether he makes it or not. But in my opinion, if Lauridsen replaced Grossmann, it would be a disaster at this point.

Bottom line no matter who likes them or doesn't teams do use them down to the junior level.

They are not perfect by any means and how teams use them we may never know and if so how it differs from each team.

But to ignore it would be foolish of anybody. Each of the last 5 cups teams have admitted using them to some level, that is just too hard to ignore or dismiss.

This.

I don't put too much stock in the predictive power of possession-based metrics, but they do provide an excellent way of revealing player usage and providing insight into past performance.

They're especially valuable in evaluating other teams' players, since it's terribly inefficient to watch and track every game/shift/play for every player across the league through traditional methods... sometimes you need a really solid set of cliff notes, weighted to your teams' preferences, and analytics fits that purpose like a glove.

I hate too say this - total speculation... But maybe it part of a bigger deal or several moves.. like. Gagner plus Defenseman for Luke plus Forward.

Why Gagner... I think Homer is trying to find someone to play with Giroux and Jake... Despite Hartnell excellent play, I think their is a thought that he can't keep up. Voracek-Giroux-Gagner?

Or if it was just Luke for Gagner.. So, their is a bigger hole on Defense. Trade a forward and another defenseman to upgrade for a better Defenseman. (Like Dailey for Mez and Downie).

With Dallas holding a playoff position is Daley even still available? As for Oilers rumours, I am not sure I want Gagner, to be fair to him I don't watch him play but I'd like to see the Flyers pry a guy like Eberle away from EDM.

I'm trying to figure out the interest in Daley. He's a non physical defenseman, who according to Bill Meltzer, is competent in coverage, a good skater, and is a good passer. But he's signed for 3.3M a year for the next 3 Seasons after this one. Doesn't that description describe Gustafsson? Why not give him a shot at playing at 1M or whatever he'll re-sign for? Why trade assets for a player that is more expensive on the Cap, when you already have a similar cheaper player? Now I realize that maybe down the road, Gustafsson might not work out, but let's give him a shot and see? And I realize that this all rumor and conjecture, but still not sure what the interest is, if it's truly there.

Well Gus and Mez are sharing the 6th spot as of now. Mez is usually the 7th guy and may get dealt. Gus would have his position on the team already. Now Timonen is likely going to retire after the season so Daley would be serving as a replacement. I looked at the UFA list and it is quite underwhelming. The only quality guy is Niskanen and I doubt he hits the market or if he does gets overpaid. Daley is a good Dman and at a fair price of 3.3 mill

Agreed. Hate it as a fan of this team and of the nhl. Will be a long stretch.

But given that we can't change it, I am glad that some/most of them will be getting a rest. How hard are these guys going to work to stay in game shape during the break? What are the restrictions on them getting togther informally? Although it's totally different, they didn't seem so great at that during the strike.

Well no offense to Daley, but if they view Daley as a replacement for Timonen. The Flyers are in big trouble.

He's looked good this weekend. From the start of the season till this point you can see his game grow leaps and bounds. Still plenty of room to improve but I agree, when he's here people will like him.

This comes from watching him actually play & not asking around about him.

The scout is probably Panaccio's dog.

I don't see the offensive upside in Morin they keep talking about. I like his defensive ability and he's capable of making a nice first pass. I see him as a combination of Coburn and L. Schenn. Tall, physical and a very good skater for his size.

Edit: The reference about the dog is about Panaccio's poor journalism. Not that Morin has no upside or that I don't like him because I do.

Well if he refrains from using a slap shot (takes too much time to happen) & uses his wrist shot he can be more effective in getting points.

When he's done that his shot is usually low to the ice & defelectable

I've always thought a heavy slapshot is overrated for a defenseman. Being able to get a shot through traffic is much more important.

It's like a pitcher being able to throw high 90s. It's a plus, but it's more important that he locate.
